In a typical day as a PCB Architect, you would....


  • Design, analyze, develop, modify and evaluate electrical/electronic parts, components, sub-systems, algorithms, or integrated circuitry for electrical/electronic equipment and other hardware systems.

  • Conduct feasibility studies, design margin and validation analyses and empirical testing on new and modified designs.

  • Assist in architecture development and assessment.

  • Evaluate reliability of materials, properties, designs, and techniques used in production.

  • Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.

  • Work closely with motherboard architects and SI experts, he/she develops a strategy for placement of key components, routing of critical signals, assignments of layers, and application, modification, or development of processor board design guidelines.  

  • Oversee day to day layout efforts by ODM partner and monitors SI simulations results

  • Designs must be consistent with electrical engineering circuit performance, signal integrity, and EMI specifications, mechanical engineering form factor and thermal requirements, and manufacturing requirements.

  • Read/interpret schematics, system functionality and performance specifications, and the company PCB design guidelines as necessary to complete printed circuit board layouts.

  • Determine PCB design approaches and parameters.

  • Influence design decisions related to the analysis and resolution of system performance issues related to the printed circuit board layout.

If you are…


  • Holding an Associate's degree or equivalent technical degree a plus.

  • Having 15 or more years' experience laying out complex, multi-layered, high speed printed circuit boards

  • Advanced in knowledge of the use of ECAD software, particularly experience with Cadence Allegro PCB Editor required.  Experience setting up Allegro Constraints Manager tools.

  • Advanced in knowledge of PCB Design Guidelines and design constraints

  • Having performed layout studies and placement and helped drive sound architectural decisions

  • Having experience laying out boards with DDR4+, PCIe Gen 4+, high speed SerDes, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, etc.

  • Experienced in high speed PCB technology techniques such as microvias, blind and buried vias, backdrilling, etc.

  • Experienced working with PCB fabrication shops and PCA contact manufacturers

  • Experienced with industry standard form factors such as PCIe CEM and Open Compute Project is a plus

  • Experienced creating symbols and managing symbol libraries is a plus

  • Able to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, layout guidelines

  • Able to work with and if necessary drive, engagements with design partners such electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, signal integrity and power integrity engineers, etc.

  • Working knowledge of electronics including signal and power integrity issues

  • Understanding of EMC principals and best practices to mitigate EMI

  • Experienced in Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Test (DfT) principals

  • Able to work independently with loosely defined parameters and perform conceptual analysis

  • Able to work successfully with engineers across various geos to meet design requirements and schedules

  • Able to manage multiple board designs at a time

  • Having excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to direct PCB layout engineers at ODM partner.

  • Experienced with modern PCB design tools and methodology.
