Job Description:

Arconic Massena LLC is seeking a Quality Systems Specialist, for our extrusions site in Massena, New York. This position will provide support for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Plant quality management system (QMS) that is certified to both ISO9001 and AS9100. The successful candidate will have primary management responsibility over several quality systems within the overall QMS. Systems may include:


  • Internal Audit
  • Corrective Actions (CAR)
  • Interface with the Calibration system
  • Customer specification system
  • New Product Development (NPD)/Engineering Change Management (ECR)
  • Management of Customer-Specific Requirements (CSRs)
  • Standard Practices and Training

Key Accountabilities:

Leadership Performance: The Quality Systems Specialist must be a dynamic leader capable of guiding cross-functional groups of employees in maintaining and improving the QMS:


  • Assist in preparation for 3 rd party QMS certification audits and customer audits and assist with the closure of related audit non-conformances.
  • Provide data pertaining to QMS processes to the location Lead Team as part of periodic Management Reviews.
  • Lead the location in the maintenance and continuous improvement of systems related to the QMS.
  • Serve as an interface with external 3 rd party auditors and 2 nd party customer auditors.
  • Lead the location in the use of statistical methods such as control charts, capability studies, Pareto Diagrams, Measurement System Analysis, and other statistical tools for evaluating and reducing process variability.
  • Manage the upgrade of the Massena customer specifications review and storage system.
  • Participate in proposed upgrade to shop floor system.

Production Systems:

  • The Quality Systems Specialist must be able to develop, implement, and continuously improve quality systems using supplied software such as InfoPath Designer, Sharepoint and EtQ Reliance.
  • Assist with maintenance of the Quality Manual and Quality Systems Procedures and update as necessary to comply with new or updated Standard and CSRs.
  • Ensure workflows are established which allow for consistent data capture.
  • Provide guidance in the maintenance and continuous improvement of Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEA's, and Control Plans as required.
  • Support with maintenance and continuous improvement of Arconic Process Management efforts.

Customer Focus:

  • Ensure both customer and internal requirements are being met for customer complaints.
  • Assist in internal problem-solving efforts.
  • Review new CSRs and identify where internal gaps may exist.
  • Develop and submit CSR waivers.
  • Evaluate and respond to customer requests to confirm Arconic's compliance to legislative requirements, such as: REACH, RoHS, LEED, Proposition 65, etc...

Team Development:

  • Coaches and trains both new and existing employees in QMS requirements and quality concepts.
  • Assist with development of new internal auditors, including providing training to auditing concepts.
  • Provide basic statistical training to employees as required.
  • Provide training and assistance to all departments in use of quality systems and correct application of relevant systems procedures.

Risk Management:

  • Conduct internal quality audits.
  • Pursue timely resolution of identified quality systems issues.
  • Analyze quality system data to develop recommendations on opportunities for improvement. Advise the location Lead Team on opportunities for improvement of quality systems based on analysis of data from the system.
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with proposed changes moving through ECR and NPD systems.

Physical and Mental Qualifications:


  • Must be able to sit or stand at a computer workstation 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to walk in steel-toed, metatarsal boots 25% of the time.
  • Must be able to change priorities frequently without losing momentum on progress.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Fluent in MS Office programs: MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certified Exemplar Global Quality Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor, or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB) or Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB) certification
  • Aluminum Extrusion experience or other metallurgy experience
  • Experience using Minitab or other statistical analysis software
  • Experience using EtQ Reliance QMS Software
  • Understanding of basic systems workflow design
