The Glass Washer is responsible for picking up and washing glassware used in experiments. Maintains stocks of glassware and provides autoclaving of tissue culture core media bottles and small batch non-urgent autoclaving for laboratories. Maintains cleanliness of glass washing facility.
This is a part-time, on-site role (24 hours per week; 3 days per week.)
Responsibilities
Wash all glassware and non-disposable plastic ware by standard procedures. Includes hand washing of delicate and temperature sensitive items, and use of dishwashing machine and drier. Also, the storage of clean glassware on shelves.
Routinely check shelves and drawers to assure that contents are labeled and arranged in an orderly manner. Includes removing broken glassware and informing Lab Managers, so replacements can be ordered. Also, cleaning/dusting shelves and cabinets as necessary.
On a daily basis, collect dirty glassware from laboratories and keep each laboratory's glassware separate from that of other laboratory's glassware. Includes reminding laboratories to rinse all glassware before placing it in the designated pic-up areas.
Wrap clean tissue culture bottles and autoclave - as time permits. Ensure autoclaved glassware is kept separate by laboratories.
Ensure glass-washing facility is clean and orderly. Be available to assist in keeping laboratories clean and neat.
Pack up hazardous waste in boxes for pick-up by safety/waste vendors.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
One year work experience
Basic computer proficiency - for annual trainings and able to navigate Microsoft Outlook (company e-mail) and ADP (company timecard entry)
Ability to adhere to Environment, Health & Safety procedures
Able to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work independently - to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts.
