Howmet Aerospace is searching for a Sr. Quality Engineer to join our Howmet Wheel Systems (HWS) business unit in Cleveland, OH.

Accountability Objectives
Under the direction of the Global Quality Director, this position is accountable for:


  • Acting as the liaison between all Howmet Aerospace manufacturing processes and the customer.
  • Providing support to Howmet Aerospace external providers for problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 7 Step, 5 WHY Principle, etc. and continuous improvement development as driven from Howmet's quality management systems and Customer requirements.
  • Supervision of quality personnel as assigned.
  • Providing assistance as needed to the Quality Manager

Job Dimensions:

  • Champions all Customer issues, concerns, and requests including wheel accessories
  • Assist external providers with new model development and launch including a full understanding of the automotive APQP process leading to on time launch with focus on the PPAP assembly
  • Possess a working knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as ISO9001 or ISO/IATF16949 and the ability to work with supply base to continuously improve their systems resulting in improved product/service quality and reduced cost
  • Provide in-depth technical knowledge to support machining, polishing and coating sources to meet Customer PPM requirements and scrap/rework reduction goals.
  • Assist in the implementation of external and internal systems to drive continuous improvement in the CVW flow path within the framework of APS/Lean Manufacturing
  • Support launches of new wheel programs including prototype, FAI, and all PPAP elements
  • Support advanced quality planning internally and throughout the subcontractors, suppliers and external providers. Provide assistance to the supplier management process as needed.
  • Lead and drive improvement projects as assigned/evolved to support organizational goals
  • Organize and lead Customer visitations, containment and 3 rd party inspection/rework to support all BU locations
  • Assist in evaluating, testing, analyzing, dispositioning, and improvements from warranty returns
  • Provide Howmet ASL support as related to Customer needs and Quality systems
Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess or be actively pursuing a Bachelor's in Engineering or Engineering Technology degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Quality role located in a manufacturing and / or plant environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of Howmet Aerospace Policies and Procedures;
  • Understand Quality Assurance procedures and techniques as related to the metals industry.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blue prints.
  • Understand geometric tolerancing and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) process.
  • Experience with ISO9001/IATF16949 Internal Auditing.
  • Experience working with plant statistics, reporting and MS office presentation.
