POSITION TITLE

Technical Associate, Plastics Lab

POSITION OVERVIEW

This hourly position is in Milliken Chemical's Plastics Additives business. The position provides support for technical service, applications development, and new product development. The position is part of the Plastics Lab located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC and reports to the Lab Facilitator. Hours of work are typically Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and may require work outside normal work hours.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Operate plastics processing equipment such as extruders and injection-molders

  • Perform plastic materials property measurements including physical properties, thermal properties, optical properties, and permeation properties

  • Report data accurately and efficiently

  • Perform equipment calibration and routine maintenance

  • Perform color shade-matching and formulation work in various plastic substrates

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment with full participation in the safety process

  • Work effectively with team members to achieve common goals

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED


  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science or related technical field or 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Preferable to have experience processing and/or testing plastic materials

  • Helpful to have experience working in laboratory setting, including operating sensitive instruments, and reporting data

  • Experience operating sheet extrusion and thermoforming equipment is a plus

  • Able to follow detailed instructions as well as work independently

  • Proficient use of scientific method and problem solving

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
