Golder has a new opportunity for an entry-level Hydrogeologist to join its dynamic team on a full-time basis in our Lansing, Michigan office. The selected candidate will support hydrogeology-related projects and proposal efforts involving permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation primarily for the water resources, power, and solid waste industries. The work entails a variety of office-related and field activities to complete approved scopes of work, document activities, solve problems that arise, and proactively communicate with project managers.

Responsibilities of the role will include:


  • Perform field work, data collection, data interpretation and evaluation.
  • Perform office-based data review and geologic field reconnaissance.
  • Perform data compilation, report writing and other related duties to support a project team.
  • Participate in a range of field programs, including the collection, handling, and shipment of samples of various environmental media (e.g., groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Perform surface/subsurface site investigations including drilling, classifying soils, coring and logging rock, installing wells, and aquifer testing.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight of subcontractors (e.g., laboratories, drillers, surveyors).
  • Accurately document (e.g., field forms, field notebooks, daily reports) and verbally communicate site conditions, observations, and activities.
  • Contribute to environmental monitoring and technical reports, including compiling field and analytical data.
  • Operate, maintain, and monitor remedial systems.
  • Perform Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments consistent with ASTM standards.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of geology, physical hydrogeology, surface and subsurface hydrogeology.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment (e.g., water quality meters, water level transducers, water and air pumping equipment).
  • Ability to perform work in inclement weather conditions following OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50 pounds during the course of work.
  • Willingness to travel for field work as dictated by project demands.

Desired:

  • A strong quantitative background.
  • Knowledge of sustainable practices.
  • Familiarity with glacial geology and geomorphology.
  • Experience performing soil classifications.
  • Experience with hydrogeology modeling codes (MODFLOW, FEFLOW, Hydrus).
  • Experience with data management tools (i.e., Excel, EQuIS, Access, Python).
  • Completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER health and safety training and current, valid refresher course.
