Job DescriptionInsurance Services Office isworking as part of a wider project team across Veriskto develop products and solutions to facilitate Verisk's entry into the life insurance sector. We are looking for a Biostatistician to join this team. This role can be based remotely in the U.S.
Role & responsibilities:
Construction of models to ingest and interpret unstructured data contained within an electronic health record (e.g. medical notes)
Working with medical,product, and data sciencecolleagues,inISOand the wider Verisk business, todeveloppredictive modelsto assessa patient's mortality risk based onhis or hermedical history contained within his or her electronic health record
Using relevant and current research,statisticsand other available market data to ensure a consistent, accurate and robust approach toevaluatingmortality risk
Maintaining awareness of key medical and epidemiological studies to ensure that datasets remain relevant and up to date
Analyzingpilot study datafor our tool to assess patient mortality based on medical history containedwithin his or her EHR
Skillsand Knowledge:
MSor PhDcandidatesin Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related field such as public healthis required
Advanced knowledge ofRand/or Pythonis required
A strong understanding of survival analysis(Kaplan-Meirplots to visualize survival curves andcox proportional hazardsmodels)is required
Natural language processing(NLP)skillsishighlydesirable(NLP training will be provided for those without experience in this area)
Awell-rounded and up-to-dategeneral knowledgeand familiarity withphysiology and medical conditionsisa plus
Knowledge ofthe HL7 electronic health record (EHR) standard is a plus(training will be provided for those without experience working with EHRs)
Experience:
Natural language processing (NLP) experience ishighlydesirable(NLP training will be provided for those without experience in this area)
2+ years of experience in a biostatistics role is a plus
Experience analyzing electronic medical record data is a plus
Life insurance experience is a plusthough training on the life insurance industry will be provided
Underwriting experience is a plusthough training on life insurance underwriting will be provided
