Position Overview

As a Sourcing Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting sales, marketing and all internal customers with item level sourcing, managing assigned commodities and categories, identifying key stakeholders, gathering requirements, and managing the implementation of approved cost reductions, quality improvements and delivery performance for sourced items, in alignment with corporate initiatives, objectives and supply chain strategy.

Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the review and processing of daily purchase requisitions submitted by locations, departments or by assigned suppliers; analyze requests for accuracy, minimum order requirements, lead times and convert to purchase orders as needed or as directed


  • Monitor and review purchase order confirmations from supplier 's for accuracy and acceptance related to line item requirements of pricing, quantity & delivery dates


  • Gather stakeholder requirements for purchasing or special sourcing needs; ensure all transactions and communication with suppliers and stakeholders are met within designated timeframes and deadlines and to ensure superior customer service for both internal and external customers


  • Provide alternative product solutions or recommendations in competitive situations. Identify and present for approval strategic cost reduction opportunities. Lead implementation of approved cost reductions on existing items


  • Works with Sourcing Manager to evaluate new supplier sources and capabilities as needed. Facilitate risk assessment and supplier audits on suppliers as needed. Build and maintain supplier relationships. Assist with onboarding new suppliers. Monitors and reports vendors' performance and escalates issues as appropriate


  • Proactively monitor purchase order due dates to ensure on time supplier performance and service fulfillment goals are met; expedite orders as needed. Identify and report on root causes for shortages. Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers to take appropriate actions against late purchase orders, changes in delivery needs, damages, out of compliance or out of spec product


  • Review supplier receiving documentation for accuracy of items and quantity received. Work in tandem with the accounting department to ensure PO's match invoice and locations regarding receiving discrepancies. Revise PO's as warranted for timely reconciliation, receipt and payment


  • Collects cost data and prepares supplier cost/industry analyses. Compile data and reports related to specific commodities, RFP's/RFI's, cost increases, trends, category spend, KPI's, project status and monthly financial updates on demand and on a regular schedule; review with Sourcing Manager for translating information in to insights and share with appropriate stakeholders as warranted


  • Assist Sourcing Manager with new item creation, innovation projects and product introduction programs; gather item information requirements for new item set up to include the creation of item specification sheets, required samples, nutrition label information and allergen master list updates; check all information for accuracy and distribute and communicate as appropriate


  • Assist or lead sourcing projects for direct and indirect spend categories as assigned to include self-service supplier programs. Assist with gathering stakeholder requirements, accumulate and combine all data into a formal RFP or RFI as appropriate. Coordinate the receipt and assimilation of RFP's as needed; coordinate required samples, tastings, surveys and feedback


  • Perform regular system data maintenance for products, materials and vendors


  • Back up Procurement personnel as required


  • May be requested to perform different or additional duties as assigned

    Position Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or 5 years of Procurement Experience


  • Experience with SAP preferred


  • Proficiency in MS Excel required


  • Experience in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or Logistics Management preferred.


  • Valid Driver's license or valid federal, state or local ID card


  • Supply Chain or Purchasing Certification, Project Management and or Lean Six Sigma desired
