Summary

Leads the development and deployment of Owens & Minor’s Strategy Deployment process, tools, training, and activities to achieve company strategy.  Partners with senior leaders to achieve the company’s strategic vision, driving transformational thinking and robust program management.  Collaborates with leaders and PMO resources to ensure businesses and functions leverage Strategy Deployment tools, technology, and approaches to drive improved execution of strategic priorities.  Drives evaluation and prioritization of new capabilities aligned to company strategy to ensure proper allocation of time, funding, and resources.

Core Responsibilities


  • Leads, develops, and directs a small team of Strategy Deployment experts to ensure the company can drive a consistent Strategy Deployment approach, leveraging program and project management expertise to support or lead strategic priorities. 

  • Supports Continuous Improvement leadership, ensuring alignment of the Continuous Improvement team’s activities are driving the Owens & Minor long-term strategy. 

  • Develops subject matter expertise both within and outside direct team around Strategy Deployment process tools, technologies and systems, focusing on enabling these skills in others throughout the organization.

  • Cultivates an action-biased culture of transformational thinkers within the company, supporting development of the company strategy.

  • Facilitates X-Matrix Working Sessions (and appropriate cascaded X-Matrix Working Sessions) aligned to the enterprise and business strategies.  Partners with Strategy and PMO leadership across the company to develop robust program/project management skills.

  • Collaborates cross-functionally with all organization levels, ensuring Strategy Deployment skills across the company, and flawlessly executing company strategy through robust program and project management, strategic business reviews, and proactive risk mitigation.

  • Collaborates with the Continuous Improvement Business System team to support the Owens & Minor Business System strategy, leveraging/sharing best practices, and developing best in class tools/technology/training.

  • Facilitates/enables Owens & Minor’s Strategy Deployment process implementation throughout the company.  Coaches and mentor teammates across the organization around consistent Strategy Deployment process processes/tools/technology. 

  • Develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), in partnership with Continuous Improvement leadership, to measure the Strategy Deployment Team’s operational performance and improvement. 

  • Partners closely with executive/business unit leadership to execute large, cross-business/functional strategic priorities.  Coaches leadership and project teams, enabling a continuous improvement culture that achieves long-term sustainable success through KPI Management and Strategy Deployment.

  • Provides support to develop Lean expertise and capability at all levels of the organization.

  • Improves the decision-making model and problem-solving capabilities within high performance teams to increase autonomy and pace of change. 

  • Performs additional duties as directed.

Qualifying Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in related field (Engineering, Sciences, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement, Project Management, Business, etc.); Master’s Degree preferred

  • 15 or more years of process improvement, continuous improvement, and/or project management experience

  • 10 or more years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people management experience (Lean based business system implementation, continuous improvement, complex program execution, strategy, operations, commercial, product management, and/or project management)

  • Or any combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 50% , domestic and international

  • Proven track record for leading and coaching teams through large, complex program/strategy execution

  • Hands on track record of implementing successful Lean-based business systems: Strategy Deployment, X-Matrix facilitation, A3 Thinking, Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Visual Management, Gemba Walks, Leader Standard Work), Value-Stream Mapping, Kaizen events

  • Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods

  • Demonstrated skill and confidence in proactively building relationships with top tier partners/leaders both internally and externally

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive continuous improvement approaches/methodologies to advance an organization’s strategy and goals

  • Strong ability to anticipate future needs of the organization and make decisions in a changing environment

  • Great communicator, demonstrated ability in solid written, oral, and presentation-giving skills

  • High ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct

  • Passion for driving improvement and leading change in complex environments

  • A holistic thinker who can look enterprise-wide to integrate and streamline systems for optimal benefit

  • Able to drive transformative strategic thinking

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization
