Responsible for planning and managing the planned giving program while planning, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio donors and prospective donors for estate and other planned gifts ($50,000 and above) that will benefit Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Minimum Job Requirements
3-5 years of experience as a planned giving officer in a non-profit organization or ten years in a high paced sales environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Identify, qualify, and solicit planned giving prospects by matching Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation’s fundraising priorities with prospective donors’ interests.
Manage the planned giving legacy society as well as build and manage a planned giving council.
Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 planned and major giving prospects; develop written solicitation strategies and proposals; purposefully guide them to make major investments in Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and develop relationships to maximize their giving potential over time.
Maintain a regular schedule of visitations to individuals, corporations, and other entities with a minimum amount of face to face contacts per month. Make an assigned number of discovery/prospecting calls on potential donors to NCHF to determine the capacity and the propensity for giving to NCHF.
Solicit at a minimum of 2 major/planned gifts per month and close a sufficient number to make the stated goals for each year.
Work with planned giving prospects’ advisors to facilitate the use of planned giving vehicles appropriate for each prospective donor, and provide the same level of instruction to fellow gift officers.
Coordinate cultivation activities and solicitations with other Foundation colleagues, including medical staff, volunteers, and other staff. Ensure appropriate stewardship reports are prepared and activities conducted for, planned gift donors.
Maintain proficiency in charitable giving methods and competency in using planned giving software to prepare calculations, analyses, and illustrations for planned giving prospects and their advisors. Provide training for development staff on planned giving vehicles, etc.
Provide timely, written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation activities. Continuous updating of Raisers Edge database with actions, moves management, etc.
Participate in major gift prospect management meetings to ensure coordination of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Collaborate with major gift and annual giving personnel regarding planned giving activities and programs.
Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans for the Foundation's Development Department.
Collaborate with the departments of the Foundation to steward, upgrade and solicit annual giving donors with potential for major/planned gifts.
Attend NCH/NCHF events as well as outside events for Foundation representation, networking etc.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
Ability to solicit and cultivate major/planned gifts at the $50,000 level and above with a proven track record of closing gifts.
A level of professional judgment, and decisiveness to inspire confidence among prospects and donors.
Strong communication skills: written, oral, and listening.
Available to work evenings and weekends (be on-call 24 hours) and travel.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Ability to manage complex responsibilities.
Familiarity with donor database applications and working knowledge of planned giving software to prepare calculations, analyses, and illustrations for prospective donors.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to plan and execute fundraising initiatives.
Demonstrate strategic, policy and budget planning experience.
Knowledge of charitable gift planning vehicles, including how to determine which vehicles are appropriate for which prospects.
