Position Summary:

Position has broad transportation responsibility and significant decision-making latitude. Primarily responsible for import transportation and customs compliance, including developing programs to ensure adherence to import regulations.  This position is also responsible for maintaining efficient and effective internal controls over all import related activities and is responsible for the daily interaction between internal and external partners regarding Customs issues.  Works closely with other supply chain functions regarding import operations and compliance activity.

Expectations:


  • Lead and provide work direction regarding the import transportation activity for U.S. and Canada to achieve external and internal customer requirements for delivery at optimal landed cost


  • Provide specific operational direction to carriers, forwarder and brokers using a broad knowledge of operations, import service capabilities and a thorough understanding of KCC expectations


  • Maintain close relationship with Customs Broker(s) and monitor brokerage activities to ensure the customs clearance process (entry and ISF) is completed timely while complying with all Customs/ PGA rules and regulations. Ensure unnecessary delays are avoided and issues that may result in a delay are addressed


  • Communicate directly with US and Canadian Customs regarding import compliance activities


  • Serve as daily resource for internal/external business partners, providing import trade and compliance information and training


  • Create and maintain the Customs Compliance Manual; create and implement standards and policies related to customs compliance (e.g. SI’s, SOP’s, etc.). Determine and initiate actions to ensure compliance is met


  • Oversee the import audit process and resulting post entry process to include PSC/PEA, Protests and Voluntary Tenders; monitor ISF scores and address late filings as needed


  • Responsible for all record keeping requirements associated with customs entries and the organization, collection and categorization of entry files for storage


  • Oversee duty drawback process that is timely and ensure that claims are tracked and recouped for the organization


  • Ensure correct customs classification codes are maintained in all relevant systems


  • Monitor regulatory changes that could impact KC’s import supply chain and work with the businesses to implement solutions aimed at continued compliance

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline


  • 10+ years of applicable experience


  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word required


  • Leadership skills  


Preferred Qualifications:


  • U.S. Customs Broker License


  • Advanced graduate level degree or certification


  • Prior experience with SAP and trade compliance modules


  • Global transportation experience


  • Import compliance experience


  • Extensive knowledge of current U.S. Customs regulations
