Job Description:

The campus programs coordinator and advisor to the Campus Activities Council (CAC) in the office of Student Life is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community and support the social and personal development of students at the University of Oklahoma. Campus Activities Council is the programming branch of the of OU's Student Government Association. This includes the chair of each of the 15 CAC events and their executive planning committees, as well as seven students serving on the CAC executive committee. Events under the peripheral of CAC include, but are not limited to, the following: Howdy Weeks, Homecoming, OU Dance Marathon, Speakers Bureau, Film Series, Concert Series, & University Sing. There are over 600 students involved with the Campus Activities Council in a leadership capacity and student chairs are responsible for the guiding the students and the events throughout the year.  The yearly operations budget is $400,000.  This position will assist the director of Student Life in providing vision and strategies to support the students and communities they represent. 

Required Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:


  • 0 - 24 months experience with student programming/advising

Skills:


  • Proficient navigating and maintaining databases

  • Advanced excel skills with ability to build and manipulate spreadsheets

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions

  • Basic computer skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff

  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines

  • Strong initiative to solve problems

  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives

  • General office skills such as multi-line phone, copying, filing, faxing, and mail

  • Customer service

  • Working with populations from diverse backgrounds

  • Must be able to perform basic data analysis

  • Must be able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations

  • Able to effectively evaluate projects/programs and produce comprehensive reports

  • Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively

  • Must have strong ability to lead project teams

  • Must be able to create and deliver effective training presentations

  • Composition and proofreading skills

  • Some technical writing experience

  • Proficient in copy writing, editing, proofreading and composition

  • Understanding of the process involved in student development and ability to communicate this understanding in a positive manner to all segments of the university community

Advertised Physical Requirements:


  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Required to work irregular hours (outside of normal business hours) due to student programs and events.  Ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse constituencies.

Departmental Preferences:


  • Master's Degree
