Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our already skilled team of experts. We want you to have a real passion for the work and apply it to our high-performance culture. You'll be a trusted member of a high energy, tight-knit, creative team.

You can expect to manage the relationships with our large fully insured and self-funded group customers who expect a high level of service. You will be relied upon to make significant financial decisions and communicate these decisions to customer benefit management staff and others. Additionally, you'll be expected to meet all Business Segment goals related to revenue, margin and membership.

Your Impact


  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Department regarding their Business Segment and Corporate Projects.

  • Analyze underwriting risk and determine premium rates for fully insured contracts and recommends funding rates for Administrative Services Only (ASO) contracts.

  • Apply data analytics across book of business to identify trends or patterns and take corrective action as required.

  • Coach less experienced underwriters on matters related to risk selection and mitigation, data analytics and integrated goal management.

  • Manage Books of Business with up to 150,000 members and representing up to $400,000,000 in premium or premium equivalent.

What You Bring


  • Bachelor's degree

  • 4 years of experience as an underwriter, actuarial student or actuary

  • Or 3 years of experience as an underwriter in an insurance organization which includes one or more years of specialized underwriting-related experience (healthcare or ancillary Sales, health or ancillary Project/Product management, health and ancillary rating support, etc.).

  • If no degree, 5 years of experience as stated above.

  • Demonstrated ability to quote alternate funding arrangements without assistance.

  • Experience leading small scale projects.

  • Demonstrated ability in training and accurately reviewing work of less experienced team members.

  • Experience collaborating and building relationships with agents, brokers, consultants, group representatives and internal staff

  • Negotiation and/or consultative experience required
