The Process Improvement & Industrial Engineer intern will be a key player in assisting the warehouse operations with continuous improvement initiatives. These initiatives will include improving the efficiency, profitability, service, and quality of the operations through initiation and implementation of projects.
This is a 10 week summer internship.
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Perform and summarize time studies and work sampling studies, and use other accepted forms of work measurement, as necessary, to establish and/or maintain manning requirements for direct and indirect labor jobs. Perform job-level task analysis, as requested.
Plan, integrate and implement Lean Manufacturing Principles including: Standard Work, Station Design and Layout, Material Presentation & Single Piece Flow into all processes.
Ensure the documentation of accurate warehouse performance and trend reports including but not limited to: line efficiency, line performance, changeover effectiveness, capacity utilization, waste and rework.
May perform data collection and report generation necessary for the engineering economic analysis of proposals and capital expenditure projects
May assist in ensuring the integrity of facility performance databases, in accordance with the company productivity instruction, to reflect line and production variants due to new business, process changes, and related annual variable budget revisions.
May initiate proposals and provide alternatives to increase productivity.
Support operations with instruction and training on statistical process control. Propose statistically determined target volumes to optimize facility utilization
Work along with a diverse group of associates in the warehouse as needed while pitching in and assisting workflow as needed.
Secondary Responsibilities
May support the new business development process by developing staffing and capacity cost estimates.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned pertaining to the safety, quality and efficiency of the distribution facilities
Facilitate continuous improvement teams to instill a total quality, continuous improvement culture throughout the warehouse network.
Minimum Requirements:
Strong preference for students who have completed their junior year, graduating in December 2021 or May 2021 with proven experience in equipment layout and new process implementations in addition to process improvements and optimization for existing operations.
