Job Description:

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an opening for one or more persons to join our Endgame Framework software simulation development team. The Endgame Framework team is looking for ambitious software professionals who would like to contribute to the advancement and support of this software architecture and associated weapon effects applications. Endgame Framework is a cutting-edge software architecture that has a long history supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Eglin Air Force Base and also the Joint Technical Coordinating Group for Munitions Effectiveness (JTCG/ME). Endgame Framework provides advanced development features to include reusable software modeling constructs, 3D geometric model interrogation and visualization, integrated Graphical User Interface (GUI) constructs, executive control across multiple processors, and a comprehensive set of M&S tools/utilities. Successful candidates will learn Endgame Framework programming constructs and contribute to specific modeling, simulation and analysis projects according to their abilities.

This position is located at ARA’s Emerald Coast Division in the city of Niceville, Florida on the gulf coast of Florida. Applicants should possess a deep understanding of advanced software constructs and programming concepts using C++ in an object-oriented architecture. Applicants should also have good communication skills and a solid understanding of mathematical/physics concepts applicable to modeling and simulation solutions. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who possess skills/experience with simulation of kinetic or directed energy weapon effects, 3D geometric modeling, 3D visualization with OpenGL or Vulkan, Lua scripting, Unity, or Qt development.

• Design and implement software solutions to challenging modeling and simulation problems using the Endgame Framework architecture


• Lead software development projects in support of modeling and simulation requirements provided by customers, to include:
  
  
  
  • Define design/development approach
  
  
  • Assign tasking to staff developers
  
  
  • Communicate design concepts, development progress, and end results to management and customers through technical meetings and presentations (some travel involved)
  
  
  • Track progress and assure completion of the project on time and within budget
  
  
  • Create monthly status reports and delivering to customers
  
  


• Perform/support ECD’s CMMI Level 3 processes
  
  
  
  • Participate in daily standup meetings, sprint planning and retrospectives as part of the Agile development process
  
  

Required Skills:

• C++ software development with a good understanding of advanced software constructs and programming concepts


• Good understanding of mathematical and physics concepts


• Good communications skills and aptitude to work with a team of developers and customers


• Leadership abilities to organize, assign tasking, and complete projects using a team of developers

Additional consideration for:

• M&S experience with engineering or mission level constructive simulations


• 3D geometric modeling and/or visualization with OpenGL or Vulkan


• Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio, C-Make, Lua, Linux, Unity, or Qt


• Department of Defense or weapon systems related experience (Air Force, Navy, Army or government contractor)


• M&S experience with directed energy effects


• Software development in a production CMMI Level 3 environment

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related scientific/engineering discipline


• 5+ years of experience performing software development using C++
