General Purpose

The position is responsible for functional oversight of the day-to-day operations of a geographic territory, region, location or functional unit that has a significant impact on corporate, business unit, or organizational objectives. Establish and implement business objectives, strategies, and plans. Manage and allocate financial resources. Implement and support Company programs and policies.

Responsibilities


  • Lead high-profile corporate accounting projects as they arise, including leading teams and working closely with the parent company and various departments throughout the organization. Recommend and implement action plans for achieving objectives.
  • Support the accounting director by performing various oversight duties associated with the monthly close process including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, cash flow statements and other key documentation.
  • Perform functional oversight of the cost recovery and revenue accounting group which includes: joint venture accounting, related billings and ongoing audit support with the joint owners; monthly bad debt provision and aging analyses; controls over daily interface between systems for revenues, receivables and cash; centralized other accounts receivable billings; and unclaimed property analysis and state reporting. Lead the functional team, direct day-to-day activities and provide guidance and recommendations.
  • Ensure the integrity of internal controls in accordance with SOX 404 within the Corporate Accounting department and provide controls expertise to other departments as needs arise.
  • Analyze, conclude and document the proper treatment of transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accounting requirements, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the environmental, social, governance (ESG) external reporting process.
  • Contribute technical and managerial support to the external reporting department, including preparation and review of SEC footnote disclosures and deliverables to the parent company.
  • Provide training, mentoring and staff development within the corporate accounting group and the broader finance organization including working with the learning & development group to remediate staff knowledge/skills gaps.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests including serving as a liaison with business units, where necessary.
  • Provide support for regulatory data requests including preparation and review of accounting-assigned responses.
  • Fill in for various members of the accounting team when needs arise (e.g. staff vacancies).
  • Provide input into team employee performance reviews. Flag performance and personnel issues for people manager resolution.

Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • A minimum of seven years directly related experience.
  • A minimum of three years of managerial or functional management experience.
  • Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, execute policy, monitor resources, and manage the development or implementation of a system, program, or process.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills to provide input into policy decisions, and to mobilize resources to produce desired business results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate team members.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls, familiarity with financial reporting, and an instilled commitment to accurate on-time completion of monthly departmental tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills including a desire for continuous improvement and the ability to thoughtfully receive and implement feedback.

Preferences


  • Advanced Degree
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Experience working for a regulated utility
  • Working knowledge of the Company's accounting systems including SAP
  • Knowledge of SEC and FERC reporting and disclosure requirements
  • Knowledge of accounting under the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
