DESCRIPTION:

The City of Aventura is seeking applications for the position of Fleet Manager/Quartermaster. This position oversees the management, maintenance, equipment and repairs of the police vehicle fleet. Prefer experienced individual with background in police fleet maintenance. Must have the ability to troubleshoot vehicle problems.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs minor vehicle repairs.
 
Installation of police equipment.
 
Reviews monthly inspections of vehicles.
 
Diagnostic review of vehicle repair needs.
 
Reviews vehicle work orders to determine course of action for repairs.
 
Facilitates the transfer of vehicles to vendors for repairs.
 
Maintains records of all vehicle repairs.
 
Receives quotes for vehicle body repairs.
 
Keeps current with mechanic certifications.
 
Maintains the KeyTracer system.
 
Maintains orderly and safe work environment.
 
Issues/collects/orders and maintains police related equipment and supplies as directed by the Administrative Division Commander or designee.
 
Stays current on issues related to police/emergency vehicle fleet through education, conference and publications.
 
Maintains the gas pump system, to include but not limited to; weekly inspections, ordering of fuel, and knowledge of DERM requirements.

Maintains specialty vehicles, to include but not limited to; jet skis, golf carts, specialty trucks, vans, etc.
 
Performs miscellaneous administrative functions.
 
Perform other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
General: 

  1. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Florida driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State;
  2. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years;
  3. Must be able to read and write the English language.

 Education and Experience: 

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent; and
  2. ASE certified mechanic
  3. 5 years experience as a fleet maintenance worker

 Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  1. Knowledge of vehicle mechanics
  2. Possess skills in the operation of the tools and equipment listed below.
  3. Knowledge of the applicable laws, statutes, and department rules and regulations; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, and supervisors; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

SELECTION GUIDELINES 
Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and background check, drug screen and polygraph exam.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED 
Works under the supervision of the Administrative Major or designee.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED 
Supervises other fleet employees

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED 
Personal computer, including specialized software, typewriter, phone, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, mechanic tools.
