The Research Associate 1 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


* Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc.
* Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
* Participates in the publication of significant results.
* Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.
* Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
* Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Bachelor's degree in a basic or health science related area required.

Duties specific to College of Arts & Sciences:


The Rieger lab is looking to fill a Research Associate position in the Biology Department at the University of Miami.


The RA will be working on mechanisms of skin-neuronal interactions using zebrafish and mice. A background in handling mice is required and microbiology and/ or zebrafish experience will be of advantage for this position. The Rieger lab has developed several hypotheses related to regeneration of limbs and host-microbial interactions during this process. The successful candidate will work on an independent research project that is related to these studies. The successful candidate will also be responsible for general lab duties that ensure smooth daily operations for everyone. These include but are not limited to use of the department autoclave, preparing buffers and agar plates, performing molecular biology in cells, maintaining live mouse colonies, working with zebrafish, properly maintaining existing lab databases including a lab notebook to support ongoing research. The successful candidate will also participate in the training of undergraduate students in the lab, and should be able to present acquired research data at group meetings or conferences.


Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Neurobiology, or a related discipline. Important general qualifications for this position are strong organizational skills, time management, problem-solving skills, a strong work ethic and ease of adaptation to new working environments. The successful candidate also must enjoy working within a team and collaborators.
