The department of Radiology is actively seeking a full-time HIM Technician. The HIM Technician is responsible for the record maintenance of patient charts and/or films. Receiving, documenting and processing requests from patients, other doctor's offices, insurance companies and legal firms. Incumbent supports a variety of administrative and clerical duties that support consumer services in and out of the department. Independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas. Employee must adhere to PHI "minimum necessary" compliance standards at all times.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Utilize UChart-Radiant (RIS) and/or PACs to verify patient information for uploading or creating CD of patient images.

  • Import imaging digital studies and documents to PACS or UChart at the request of patients, doctors or family members.

  • Respond to requests for subpoenas and legal requests for mail-outs from attorneys, outside physicians and patients in a timely manner. Retrieve messages from voice-mail in a timely manner.

  • Answer and responds to medical records inquiries in person, via fax, telephone and general medical records e-mail in compliance with hospital requirements.

  • Complies with the hospital requirements, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, State regulations and works closely with the HIPAA Privacy Office to ensure HIPAA compliance.

  • Manage document services with Iron Mountain

  • Supports the workflow at the counter to receive and process film jacket/CDs requests for the counter and/or ancillary areas via telephone, fax and/or in person. Sign-out patient records and/or create temporary and new volumes.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • One (1) year of HII &/or HIM experience preferred. Preferably in a clinical or hospital based environment.

  • Experience in Epic Radiant (RIS), Philips PACS and/or Vendor neutral archives (VNA) a plus.






Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University's core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
