The Data Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining the analytical infrastructure that enables the majority of functions in the data world. Responsible for the testing, maintenance, construction and development of architectures such as large scale processing systems and databases. Also responsible for creating data set processes for verification, acquisition, mining and modeling.
Data Engineer is tasked with overseeing the full life-cycle of back-end development of the business’s data warehouse. Responsible for the development of ETL processes, cube development for database and performance administration, and dimensional design of the table structure.
Works closely with the data analysts, operations and senior leadership teams in order to power insights for the business and enable consistently informed management decisions.
A day in the life of
40% Data Pipelines & ETL Processes
Assembling large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements
Building required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using Airflow and Snowflake Cloud technologies
Provide day-to-day support of the data warehouse and troubleshoot existing procedures and processes
Work closely with data analysts and other data consumers within the business in an attempt to gather and populate data warehouse tables
30% Data Architecture & Engineering
Design and support the business’s database and table schemas for new and existing data sources for the data warehouse
Identifying, designing and implementing internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
Building analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency and customer acquisition
20% Business Operations & Data Requirements
Working with stakeholders including data, design, product and executive teams and assisting them with data-related technical issues
Strive to improve data organization and accuracy. In this capacity, monitor and troubleshoot performance issues on data warehouse servers and assist with continuous improvement of BI, data standards and processes.
Work closely with other disciplines/departments and teams across the business in coming up with simple, functional, and elegant solutions that balance data needs across the business
10 % Documentation & Performance Metrics
Establish the documentation of ETL development, and maintain technical specification documentation for all reports and processes
Provide expertise to the business in the areas of data analysis, reporting, data warehousing, and business intelligence.
Analyze business requirements for reporting and analysis and subsequently translating the emanating results into good technical data designs
What you’ll Need
Bachelors in Computer Science, Data Science, IT, or Information Systems
4 years using SQL server coding and SQL data administration,
2+ years developing ETL solutions and data pipelines with Apache Airflow
2+ years programming on Python, Flask
2+ years Docker Containers
2+ years Linux server administration
Strong understanding of dimensional modeling as well as other data warehousing techniques
