Department Description

The Corporate Actions Department is responsible for the notification and processing of corporate actions. A corporate action is an event initiated by a public company that effects the securities (equity or debt) issued by the company. The department's primary responsibility is the correct and timely instruction captured within client accounts and executed to the market.

• Voluntary Corporate Actions processed within the WHEM market.

• Inquiries: COACS Team deals exclusively in Corporate Action inquiries from internal middle office teams with some light touch external client inquiries.

• Voluntary Client instruction processing: Responsible for response input and client chasing on all Voluntary Corporate Actions, in addition the team carries out tasks to support the processing teams.

Each of the WHEM Corporate Action teams interact with each other on a daily basis, and liaise with various internal departments such as Middle Office, Client Service, Stock Lending, Settlements, Risk, Compliance and Audit.

Job Purpose:

The Corporate Actions Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all events will be analyzed. They will communicate corporate action events to brokers, traders, and middle office personnel, and other operations departments to ensure timely execution of client instructions. Additionally, you will research and resolve cash and share differences, and reconcile and allocate dividend payments. You will monitor and pursue dividend receivables, and correspond daily with other broker dealers, banks, and agents. Inquires received into the department are responded to within same day.

Analysts are also responsible for supporting their team lead and department manager in the day-to-day management and training of the team.

Responsibilities:

• Heavy volume WHEM Domestic Voluntary Corporate Action Processing

• Responsible for assisting with the daily operation of the team, ensuring all events are processed timely and accurately.

• Assist the team lead with the facilitation of the day-to-day workflow within the team to ensure effective workload taking into account the complexity and size of the event and the level of experience and expertise of the specialist.

• Overseeing and developing members of the team to ensure they work effectively together providing daily support and guidance to team members.

• Ensure that departmental controls, checklists, policies and procedures are adhered to by team members.

• Perform end of day checks to ensure that all queues, aging items and checklists have been reviewed and updated by the team.

• Liaise with internal departments to ensure queries are resolved / responded to within a timeframe and manner sensitive to the urgency of the event.

• On a semi-annual basis work with team members to review and where necessary seek approval for updates from senior managers to procedures, urgent changes to processes or procedures should be documented and escalated immediately.

• Escalate to manager for support and guidance where necessary and ensure that team members escalate issues appropriately.

• Provide support to the management team on ad-hoc projects, and provision of cover for holiday / absence periods under support and guidance.


  • Extensive knowledge of the various equity products related to Corporate Action processing
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and analytical skills related to Corporate Action processing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and detail oriented
  • Experience in a work environment which required attention to detail and adherence to specific rules and standards required
  • At least two years' banking and or brokerage operations experience

  • Bachelors degree preferred

Qualifications:

• Strong problem solving, decision making, and analytical skills

• Detail oriented

• Experience in a work environment which required attention to detail and adherence to specific rules and standards required

• At least five years' banking and or brokerage operations experience

• Bachelor's degree preferred

• Advanced in Microsoft Office applications (specifically EXCEL)
