A senior researcher position within the R&D function as part of the Gypsum Panels Lab based at USG?s Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, IL.  The Gypsum Panels Lab is responsible for new product development, operations support, and exploratory activities.  

 

As part of the team, the senior researcher will help drive our continued focus on delivering purposeful innovation to the Gypsum Division.  He/She will strive to expand USG?s gypsum panels portfolio and strengthen USG?s market position. He/she will work closely with the Plants, Technical Services/LSS teams to implement new technology to drive cost savings and step change in innovation.  The senior researcher will work closely with senior staff to collaborate and implement new technology.  

The senior researcher will also work closely with product management team and manufacturing team on product development from concept to final commercialization. The senior researcher will also leverage his/her technical expertise to provide broad support in related areas such as product compliance, product application, operation improvement, and customer support. 

 
Job Responsibility:


  • Work closely with Plants to implement new technology and drive cost reduction.

  • Plans and executes plant trials requiring cross functional leadership and reports findings and recommendations. 

  • Recognized source of expertise in product and/or process in area of responsibility.

  • Leads major projects in laboratory for successful implementation of new products and/or processes for new innovations and/or improved quality and performance. 

  • Work closely with cross-functional team to drive new product development related to gypsum panel products from ideation to commercialization.  

  • Apply project management skills and engineering principles in managing and executing projects to support product and process enhancement. 

  • Provides clear, complete, and accurate written documentation including; Research Reports with conclusions and recommendations, documentation suitable for recreation of test activity, future reference, and development of intellectual property.

  • Collaborates with other functional units and external partners to resolve technical issues.

  • Conduct activities in a safe manner, observing all safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 3-5 years? experience leading a Wallboard Line.

  • Strong understanding of wallboard formulations.

  • B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, or similar disciplines.

  • Experience in manufacturing support and new product / technology development.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in MS OFFICE.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
