We are seeking a Manager - Financial Accounting to join the Corporate Controllership team based at the Alcoa Corporate Center in Pittsburgh, PA. An exciting and meaningful role at the center of Alcoa’s in-house expertise on technical accounting. The team consists of highly qualified CPAs with extensive experience in financial accounting and business matters. Considerable ongoing interaction with a wide group of stakeholders across the company including Alcoa’s Controller, Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Accounting Services, Operations Controllers, Treasury, Tax, and Legal Teams. Situated next to Alcoa’s Executive Team, this is a highly visible role.

This is an individual contributor manager role that will be focused on leading critical processes and accounting matters across the global organization.

The position allows the candidate to continue to develop technical skills and to leverage and develop their project management abilities in a collaborative culture. The role offers a high degree of variety and learning opportunities both in terms of business and technical accounting knowledge.

The position serves as a key finance and accounting resource for several of our operations. The role works within a world-class finance organization to analyze our consolidated financial results, provide accurate and transparent financial reporting, and resolve various technical accounting matters. This position will also play a key role in merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions; work closely with Strategy, Corporate Development, and Tax teams in evaluating opportunities and crafting deal structures.

The role requires a results-oriented, innovative thinker, with outstanding communication skills who works well both individually and in a group environment, and demonstrates the highest level of integrity and trust. This reports to the Senior Manager – Financial Accounting.

Major activities include:


  • Identify and resolve corporate-wide accounting issues in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), and support the recording, documentation, and reporting of these issues.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor associated accounting policies.

  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data as requested by Operations Controllers, Country Controllers, or Management.

  • Analyze monthly legal entity and segment financial results and summarize findings for senior financial management.

  • Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, supporting schedules and disclosures for internal and external purposes, including 10-Q / 10-K filings with the SEC and financial reporting to the Board of Directors.

  • Manage accounting considerations for mergers and acquisitions by reviewing financial information and identifying financial impact of transaction terms, pricing and legal commitments; provide integration support as appropriate to convert entity’s financials to the Alcoa chart of accounts.

  • Participate in ongoing compliance initiatives regarding the Company’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, including 302/404 certifications.

  • Update job knowledge by staying up to date on new accounting pronouncements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.

  • Analyze and implement new accounting pronouncements.

  • Participate in the activities related to the quarterly reviews and the annual audit performed by external auditors.

  • Provide guidance and oversight of regional Financial Accounting Services work regarding special transactions and participate in closing activities, as needed

  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.

  • Participate in other special projects as they arise.

  • Periodic travel to Alcoa Facilities (infrequent, i.e. less than 10%)

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

  • CPA certification required

  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP

  • One of the following:

    • 5+ years of accounting experience

    • Minimum 4 years of experience in public accounting

    • Minimum 4 years of experience within a US GAAP policy group of a publicly traded manufacturing company



Preferred qualifications:


  • Master's degree

  • Manufacturing experience with a concentration in inventory reporting

  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and/or Hyperion experience

  • Working knowledge of Oracle or equivalent ERP system
