Job Description:
In order to become a world leader in the education and career development of our employees, Vertex has established Vertex University and seeks a founding leader of curriculum development to establish our core offerings in drug discovery, development and commercialization. Supervised by the Chief Scientific Officer, the curriculum of Vertex University will provide world-class biotechnology education spanning all aspects of this industry; from scientific and medical research, drug development and manufacturing, to financial, commercial, legal, and regulatory aspects.

Vertex is actively seeking a Director to lead curriculum development. The person in this position will join the Innovation and Educational Research team and play a critical role in rapidly advancing education and resources for employees to develop capabilities throughout their career at Vertex.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of curriculum in support of building a holistic employee education program. You will facilitate a curriculum steering committee, collaborate with subject matter experts, direct the work of developers and partner with Human Resources in the deployment of programs.

Responsibilities :

  • Oversee the curriculum development process for scientific and technical employee learning programs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional curriculum steering commitment for alignment on andragogical principles, content development and priority focus areas.
  • Partner with HR Learning & Development department in building a holistic employee education program that spans functional, technical, professional and leadership capability development.
  • Conduct need analyses and research on learners and contexts specific to the Vertex, scientific and drug development environment.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders and subject matter experts to develop content; supervise ~2 developers in creating curriculum.
  • Ensure all courses and components are employee-centered, drive the intended learning outcomes, meet all company standards, and follow best-practices.
  • Incorporate effective and creative uses of multiple modalities, technology and andragogy to enhance instruction and create new learning opportunities.
  • Maintain curriculum ensuring content remains up-to-date, innovative and cutting edge.
  • Design and deploy methods to assess curriculum effectiveness; report findings and adjust as needed.

Qualifications

  • PhD, EdD with 5+ years or an MEd, MBA with 10+ years of curriculum development experience in either an academic institution or a leading corporate university setting is required
  • Experience designing professional level teaching and/or development curriculum, especially the development of a full curriculum preferred
  • Experience leading content specialists through entire process of course design, and working closely with subject matter experts of differing content-area backgrounds
  • Expertise as an instructional designer or curriculum developer is required; teaching or instructional experience preferred
  • Strong collaborative style, with an ability to influence multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management skills; excels in dynamic and rapid paced environment
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and lead the work of others
  • Ability to envision content that resonates with Vertex's unique culture
  • Outstanding communication of information and ideas, both written and verbal, to diverse audiences
  • Innovative leader with openness to and skeptical evaluation of new ideas
  • Highest level of ethics and commitment to Vertex's core values and beliefs
