Job Description:
Inside Higher Ed, the leading source for news, commentary and analysis about higher education, is seeking an enterprising, creative reporter to join its team of talented journalists. The reporter will cover what we call "post-traditional" students - including those from underrepresented minority groups and low-income backgrounds, working adult learners and displaced students, veterans and the like - and the colleges most likely to enroll disadvantaged students: community colleges, for-profit institutions, and other open-access colleges.
Just a few of the issues on this reporter's agenda: the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and recession on the enrollment of disadvantaged students; federal and state programs to provide free community college; the successes and struggles of minority-serving colleges and universities; and student transfer.
Inside Higher Ed engages in authoritative journalism that provides a mix of news, enterprise and analysis. Our reporters mix beat and enterprise reporting to write breaking news stories, feature articles and investigative projects. Candidates should be able to juggle multiple articles each week, and should like to dig deeply and to learn. Candidates should have at least three years of full-time professional reporting experience; a background covering higher education is a plus.
Inside Higher Ed publishes breaking news, features, commentary, blogs and other content (including audio and video) each weekday, and has quickly established itself as an authoritative, independent voice for its 3.7 million unique monthly users and 180,000 daily e-mail subscribers.
Inside Higher Ed provides a competitive salary commensurate with experience as well as a generous slate of benefits, 401(k) match and 18 days' paid vacation. Our office is conveniently located in the heart of downtown D.C.; we are currently remote due to the pandemic and once things return to "normal" we expect the reporter to work from our downtown D.C. office.
