2nd Shift Position: Primary Shift Hours: Noon-8:30pm Will Cover Other Shifts As Needed Typical Work Week: Monday-Saturday
Purpose of the Position
Establish controls and monitor compliance to assure internal and external Quality Standards, and Regulatory Requirements, are met.
Assures all products manufactured and distributed meet food safety, quality and legal requirements for both source and destination locations.
Provide process improvement leadership and problem-solving capabilities to the QS team
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Sets up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests and perform testing so accurate results are obtained.
Documents results of tests and analyses
Test and analyze products to determine purity, chemical content and other characteristics.
Prepares chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
Sample and evaluate product characteristics in raw and finished goods and assure they meet established requirements for Food Safety and Quality.
Perform cookups and organoleptic reviews on raw materials and finished goods to assure they meet established requirements.
Audit manufacturing process to ensure operators are following work instructions, GMPs, USDA and FDA regulations as well as special production instructions.
Investigate any production quality issues.
Communicate with Operations and Quality Manager to resolve any quality issues.
Actively involved in the disposition of non-conforming finished product and raw materials, this includes returns, damaged and out dated product or material.
Investigate customer complaints.
Improve quality and process systems through internal investigation and problem solving.
Conduct and document HACCP verifications and validations.
Charts and interprets data and reports any discrepancies or negative trends.
Performs environmental swabs on equipment
Inputs results of environmental data.
Evaluates data and submits reports
Maintain testing equipment calibration
Maintain good housekeeping of laboratory area
Identifies opportunities for improvement and coordinated QS Team efforts to address them.
Create new data collection / reporting methodologies where required.
Troubleshoot laboratory equipment when it is not operating correctly.
Can edit and write basic procedures and do some training.
Assists QS Technologist, Plant Quality Manager, and Laboratory Supervisor as necessary.

Reports to Quality Systems Supervisor
Work and communicate effectively with members of Operations, R&D, Marketing, Purchasing, Shipping & Receiving, Logistics, Inventory Control, Customer Service
External:
Interacts with USDA Inspection Personnel, customers or suppliers.
Interacts with GLUS and CCLT
Interacts with FSQS Auditor
Knowledge and Experience:
College degree, or High school degree with extensive experience in Quality Systems, Food Science or Related Field.
Working knowledge of computer systems, MS Office Programs.
Proven track record of identifying gaps and providing input to problem solutions
Work Environment
Good laboratory working conditions are maintained.
Production areas require GMP compliance and some personal safety gear (ex. steal toe shoes, hairnets)
Employee may be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
