Overview:

The Substation Operations Manager - Renewables/NY is responsible for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Operations Management of substation project work in the Renewables (Wind Farms, Solar, Batter Energy Storage) Line of Business for the East Region. Primary regional focus will be on the New York Market.

Responsibilities:


  • Work with Director of Operations to develop the business unit that will serve the Renewables/NY Substation Market. Including, strategic vision, customer relationships and operational organization.
  • Implement and ensure all facets of: Safety, Quality, Productivity for the business unit.
  • Day to day oversight of all operations staff and field teams.
  • Provide operational and technical guidance to project and field teams.
  • Preconstruction responsibilities include but not limited to: Pre-job visits, assist estimators, and prepare bids or proposals when necessary.
  • Financial responsibilities: Assist with the management of purchase orders, subcontracts, project P&L, etc.
  • Train Construction Managers, field Supervisors, staff, etc. on administrative process as required.
  • Monitor performance metrics for operating unit - production, man-hours, accidents and incidents. Review weekly productivity of crews and adjust as necessary. Provide work progress reports as necessary. Develop corrective action plans when required.
  • Ensure the safe proper use and application of Company equipment and tooling. Ensure proper equipment is procured for projects.
  • Participate in Customer program meetings. Regular customer contact and engagement. Client networking and Business Development.
  • Maintain good working relationships with IBEW locals throughout the Region with regards to hiring, retraining, and termination of craft workers. Assist in Union Negotiations when possible.
  • Deploy LEAN principles.

Qualifications:


  • The Substation Operations Manager must have at least 15 years of supervisor and management experience in the Substation Business, preferably in Renewables or NY Market.
  • The ideal candidate will have extensive field experience in the substation industry, having obtained a journeyman credential in electrical construction.
  • College degree and training in management/supervision would be a plus but is not required.
  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time.
