Process Engineering Technician at Proterra, Inc.

Job Description:

Position Overview


This position will provide comprehensive Process Engineering support to Proterra’s City of Industry Site Battery Process Engineering Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing the overall process design and suggesting measures of improvement of Process, thereby increasing productivity and improving Process costs.


About the Role – You will:



  • Accountable for safety, cost and quality targets for assigned areas.

  • Develop, evaluate and improve Process methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.

  • Lead 1st article Process validation activity for design changes; write clear, detailed work instructions; Andon management, tactical support for work order and systems issues.

  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions;

  • Confer with management, engineering and other staff regarding Process capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes; work with Product Engineering to identify and correct product related issues on the line.

  • Confer with vendors and engineering to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, parts or tools and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the City of Industry based Process Engineering team that supports Proterra’s Process Engineering operations in City of Industry, CA.

  • You will report to the Battery Process Engineering Manager and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other Process facility in Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ years’ experience in an automotive Process environment that includes strong functional hands-on experience.

  • Experience in High Voltage Battery Process and engineering is a plus

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical or industrial) or equivalent experience.

  • Basic understanding of lean process concepts.

  • Knowledge of GD&T, basic Hydraulic, Pneumatic, and electro-mechanical systems.

  • Knowledge of CATIA and MS applications is a plus.

  • Ability to use power tools and measuring tools.

  • Physical Demands:

    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.

    • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.

    • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.

    • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.

    • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.



  • Environmental Demands:

    • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.

    • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.

    • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.



You might also have:



  • Associate degree in a related field


  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification 

Location: City of Industry, CA
