You will be a key member of the R&D Verification Team as we develop and commercialize a Surgical Robotics Platform, responsible for verifying that our system design meets our product requirements.

The Surgical Robotics business is part of the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group. The Minimally Invasive Therapies Group strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions.

A Day in the Life

As a System R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for the verification of our product requirements. This includes:


  • Reviewing and providing feedback on proposed product requirements
  • Utilizing System Engineering and DRM principles to assist in the decomposition requirements into meaningful sub-requirements
  • Developing engineering studies and utilizing DRM tools to thoroughly investigate potential sources of variation inherent to the design of the system
  • Developing an efficient verification strategy for product requirements assigned to you
  • Providing feedback and reviewing test methods against your proposed verification strategy
  • Writing engineering reports documenting analyses, conclusions and recommended actions
  • Performing analysis of data using a range of statistical and predictive analysis tools (DRM tools strongly encouraged)
  • Investigating test method issues and proposing efficient, successful solutions
  • Planning needed testing activities, and participating in SCRUM processes as needed
  • Authoring Design Verification Protocols and Reports
  • Facilitating root cause investigations as required

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Nice to Have

  • Experience in surgical robotics/medical device verification strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of complex, electro-mechanical, software controlled devices
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, 21 CFR 820, IEC 60601-1 and MDD
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and tools
  • Strong understanding of or certification in Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) or related programs
  • Demonstrated use of statistical analysis tools commonly used in Engineering, preferably using Minitab.
  • Experience with sample size rationales for low-sample size availability for verification and test method validation
  • Experience with capital medical equipment strongly preferred
