SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Sr. Process Safety Engineer directly supports site needs for developing, implementing, promoting, auditing, and revising the Process Safety and Risk Management Programs in the EHS department, as an integral member of the PSM group . Responsibilities include leadership of an in-plant team to develop, implement, and manage specific elements of the PSM program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Facilitates PHAs utilizing multiple methodologies

  • Trains, develops, and mentors plant personnel to become subject matter experts within specific PSM focus areas.

  • Coordinates implementation of the Business Unit requirements for PSM Standards at the Raleigh Plant.

  • Participates in OSHA PSM and EPA RMP auditing program, and assists in developing follow-up action plans.

  • Participates in incident investigations.

  • Participates in EHS reviews on capital/expense projects.

  • Supports critical OSHA and EPA regulatory inspections and investigations.

  • Provides guidance and coordinates development and maintenance of PSM program elements which may include Employee Participation Plans, Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analyses, Operating Procedures, Training, Facility Siting, Contractor Requirements, Management of Change/PSSR, Mechanical Integrity, Incident Investigation, Emergency Planning & Response, and Compliance Audits.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

  • May serve as point of contact with emergency personnel.

  • Participates in "On-Call" environmental, health and safety duty for off shift hours.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related Engineering field.

Experience:

5 - 10 years of experience in a chemical, healthcare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, preferably with some prior PSM experience.

Experience with program management and oversight is provided.

Experience in hazardous materials handling and control preferred.

Knowledge in Process Safety principles and programs, specifically with PHA, PSI, Operating Procedures, or Management of Change.

Demonstrated high level of technical competency and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS/ SCOPE:


  • This position reports to the Sr. Manager EHS.

  • Interaction with employees at all levels on the site, as well as Site Management, Maintenance, and R&D is required.

  • The incumbent must exhibit professional and have the ability to communicate effectively with various levels of plant and corporate management.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:





  • This position works both in the Office and Plant setting, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Outdoor conditions will include the temperature and weather extremes.

  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required including working early, staying after normal working hours, weekend work, or holiday work.

  • This position will rotate on-call duties, which include weekend/holiday coverage of plant operations.

  • Physical demands of this job include climbing stairs and extensive periods of walking and standing.

  • Exposure to fugitive emissions of chemicals typical for chemical operations.

  • Must be able wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc., as deemed necessary by EHS.
