Modern Healthcare, the preeminent source for healthcare business news, is seeking an entry-level journalist for a one-year reporting fellowship covering healthcare and the federal government. This position will be part-time (under 30 hours per week), which can be based in our Chicago headquarters or remote. The fellow will cover a variety of healthcare business news, including but not limited to mergers and acquisitions and company earnings. This is a temporary, one-year position. Applicants are required to submit at least two clips, and a cover letter with at least one story idea you would like to cover during the fellowship.

This position will report, write and produce for all Modern Healthcare digital and print publications and is expected to generate other forms of editorial content including but not limited to blog posts, podcasts, video, webcasts and social media. There are also opportunities for feature writing and deeper reporting. This reporter will supplement our core coverage by producing stories on the news of the day that would be required reading for our audience.

This position will give candidates opportunities to break stories in the hotly competitive healthcare journalism space and develop sources in the industry. Basic Requirements:

• Six months of writing and reporting experience preferred, including paid and non-paid internships in a newsroom


• Able to manage multiple assignments to cover daily news, analysis and long-term features


• Consistently meet deadlines and file concise, clean copy


• Desire to collaborate and work with other reporters


• B.A. in journalism or related field

Preferences:

• Interest in data and multimedia reporting. Modern Healthcare has a research team and regularly includes data, graphics, video or podcast material with its reporting

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay if you work more than 40 hours in a workweek (or 8 hours in a workday in California).
