Position Overview

This position is a cross functional leadership position for driving program management activities related to development and launch of battery programs and corresponding vehicle integration activities for Proterra’s external customers. This position will require extensive communication and relationship building with external and internal customers, critical vendors as well as cross functional teams to drive deliverables for the successful launch at customer sites.

About the Role – You will:


  • Act as the central program lead to initiate, plan, execute, and govern all aspects of the program to ensure successful delivery of the program’s commitments.

  • Work very closely with business development, battery engineering and vehicle integration teams, and Proterra Chief Technology Officer to understand customer RFQ requirements and develop program specific requirements.

  • Develop detailed plans working with customers, battery and integration technical leads and other cross functional teams to support customer milestones.

  • Drive Proterra Product Development Process by leading a cross functional development team.

  • Act as central point of contact for managing internal and external teams, and for aligning teams on program milestones and deliverables.

  • Own program scope and manage changes in scope while evaluating their impact on business and program deliverables.

  • Manage risks, issues list and drive corrective actions to mitigate risks in a timeline manner.

  • Manage program’s budget and overall program profitability. Define, manage and report relevant program KPI’s.

  • Manage program documentation; create and maintain program dashboards, and track all milestones, deliverables and changes.

  • Mange conflict resolution, consensus building and effective escalation.

  • This position will be part of the PM team that reports under Proterra’s Engineering leadership.

  • You will also work very closely with the Director of Body Engineering and other engineering teams.

  • Must have strong practical experience of managing large and complex projects.

  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.

  • Must be a self-starter with ability to adapt to varied interpersonal styles at all levels of the organization in a fast moving, innovative environment.

  • Customer-focused attitude with excellent communication skills and ability to work through ambiguity.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, trust and credibility


  • Excellent English communication skills.

Your Experience Includes:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience in program management, preferably in tier one or tier two setting.

  • Experience in directly managing projects in manufacturing, automotive or technology environment.

  • Experience with electromechanical systems and SW development process.

  • Proven ability to lead all aspects of a project and to work and think strategically.

  • Experience in negotiations and finding solutions.

  • Proven record of continued growth in professional skills and responsibilities

  • Proficient in creating and managing schedules and adapting to latest software tools.

You might also have:


  • Formal project management training and certification (e.g., PMI)

  • Master’s Degree in a related field or business.

  • Experienced in an automotive, aerospace or similar manufacturing environment.

Travel: Up to 20% of the time (work location will be based in Greenville, SC)
