SJS Executives, LLC (SJS) is seeking a Patient Safety Expert who will advise a medical High-Reliability Organization (HRO) about how to how to manage and reduce risk and prevent catastrophes through continuous process improvement (CPI), including by applying Lean Transformation and Six Sigma process measurement techniques.
The Patient Safety Expert will review any proposed business process changes suggested by an integrated Lean Transformation team to ensure safety and health of patients as well as frontline workers is not compromised.
Responsibilities
Provide expert consultant services and executive coaching about strategies and techniques for improving patient safety and aiming for zero harm status within the HRO; provide written recommendations for improving patient safety and eliminating catastrophic safety incidents as requested
Help to assess, document, define, champion and promote HRO principles within the organization
Perform evaluations of healthcare solutions, technology and innovations from a patient safety and value-based perspective
Assist with implementation and management of a Service Improvement Model (SIM) as directed by the Executive Sensei (Program Manager), which may involve duties like research, generating reports, running or attending team meetings, producing document deliverables, analyzing metrics, making recommendations, etc.
Assist the Lean Transformation department with performing Value Stream Analysis (VSA) by representing the voice of the customer for patient safety
Collaborate with various Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety professionals at the customer site to ensure Lean Transformation or Six Sigma process measurement and improvement initiatives align with related quality and safety initiatives already in place
Compose, and contribute to the composition of, various monthly and annual reports, slide decks and assessments about patient safety to enable executive leaders at the customer facility to understand the Return on Investment (ROI) and tangible outcomes of its Lean Transformation and Six Sigma programs
Help develop new lean tools for patient safety under the guidance of the Executive Sensei (Program Manager)
Keep up with regulatory compliance changes and patient safety innovations and news to serve as the safety expert on the Lean Transformation team
Other related Patient Safety for Lean Transformation tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Five (5) or more years of experience as a Patient Safety Expert for a high-reliability organization (HRO) in healthcare, preferably a large-scale hospital
Familiarity and understanding of how to improve patient safety within an HRO Lean Transformation organizational structure that also involves some Six Sigma process measurement
Be familiar with the Joint Commission's High Reliability Health Care Maturity Model (HRHCM) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Framework for Safe, Reliable, and Effective Care
Understanding of the patient safety/HRO best practices endorsed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety or similar related 4-year degree from an accredited college or university
