The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The advanced technical writer role helps to create and provide accurate, consistent, and usable technical content by using new and existing software and processes. Responsibilities include technical writing, translation coordination, collaboration with cross functional groups, effective communication, and the ability to quickly learn complex processes in order to produce technical content.

As an Advanced Technical Writer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: 

• Leading migration of technical content to new systems


• Implementing new processes and systems for technical content


• Determining the best authoring tools to use based on the technical content and audience


• Supporting technical subject matter experts in the process to create accurate, consistent, and usable technical content

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution


• Three (3) years of technical writing experience using a combination of Structured FrameMaker and/or XML in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Master's degree in Scientific and Technical Communication


• Five (5) years of technical writing experience using desktop publishing systems and/or XML


• Experience implementing new processes and systems for technical content


• Experience in drafting technical manuals or instructions


• Experience in translation coordination


• Experience using Adobe InDesign or Illustrator


• Collaboration, effective communication, and the ability to quickly learn complex processes

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
