Prerequisites:

Good    organizational    skills.       Strong    mechanical    aptitude.       Basic understanding   of   electrical   systems.    Some   welding   and   pipe  fitting   experience  necessary.   Basic  carpentry  skills  are  necessary.  Ability to work the night shift and mandatory overtime will be required.

Nature of Position:

This position involves maintaining and repairing production  equipment  and  plant facility.

Essential Job Functions:


  1. Physical Functions

This requires that objects such as motors, pumps, welding equipment, etc. be moved   from  one   position/location   to  another  in  an  effort  to  maintain production equipment throughout the plant.     Muscular  and  cardiovascular endurance  are  required,  along  with  upper  and  lower  body  manipulation functions in order to perform functions required to maintain machinery such as   bending,  twisting,   and   reaching  motions.    Tight  gripping,  cupping, clamping   hand  and  wrist  motions   are   required   to  support,  carry  and maneuver   up  to  75 lbs. of objects/glass  to platform heights of 3 feet in a manner considered safe for self and others.  Certain job functions require a respirator to be worn. Work hours may vary as to the number of hours and start and stop times.  The position requires standing on a concrete floor, working under floor lighting wearing steel-toed boots.    In addition,   the   employee   must  be   able  to   hear   commands   in  a noisy atmosphere.   The   “team concept”   instituted  for  shop   floor   production workers  requires  each  worker  to  perform different functions on a rotating basis.  Therefore, all functions are considered essential for the job.


  1. Mental Functions

Mental   endurance   is  required   as    some    internal    stress    is     created  resulting from accelerated paced activities that are  required in order to  meet customer demands and promised delivery schedules.


  1. Work Environment

The shop floor work environment is subject to unusually warm  temperatures during the summer months due to the heat generated by the glass  tempering furnaces.  Normal climate conditions of the region will also be present such as humidity; paint/solvent odors will be present if and when ceramic enamel painting takes place.    Glass cleaning materials can create some odors in the plant, as well as sealants used in fabrication insulating glass units.  While the odors are within acceptable levels, they nevertheless, can be smelled.    Dust, pollen and other  typical  airborne  particulate  matter are also  present within the atmosphere of the shop floor.

Equipment Used:

All shop power tools and welding equipment.   All  hand held  tools  and test equipment.   Welding  and  electrical  test  meters  and torch.  Tape measure, distortion tester,  recording  instruments,  nail guns,  saw,  glue guns,  bander and forklift operations.

Safety:

Safety   is  a  primary   concern  in our operation,   and  it  is   incumbent   on everyone  entering  the shop floor to follow the rules and regulations defined in the plant safety rules.  The required equipment will be issued based on the job station and the nature of work being performed.
