Key Responsibilities

Summary

The R&D Analytical Manager will be responsible for leading, strengthening and motivating a team of analytical scientists focused on all aspects of analytical sciences and product performance testing across the Hygiene-Home and Hygiene-Health Business Units, globally.

The successful candidate requires the ability to collaborate in an accelerated, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment. Research and Development experience should demonstrate successful application and management of state-of-the-art analytical techniques to solve problems, including separation technologies, spectroscopic techniques, and classical wet chemistry techniques.

• Lead a team to develop, characterize, qualify, and validate analytical methods for product characterization, in-process and in some cases release testing.
• Collaborate with global Microbiology team to thoroughly characterize efficacy of new formulations.
• Work across teams to prioritize projects and activities so that resources are used in the most effective and efficient manner.
• Apply new cutting-edge technologies to improve efficacy characterization, capability, and throughput of in-process testing.
• Thoroughly analyze results and methods, solve analytical problems, troubleshoot assays and meet regulatory expectations for analytics
• Prepare and review standard operating procedures, method development reports, qualification/validation protocols and reports, and scientific journal publications and presentations.
• Present scientific findings at internal and external meetings
• Other knowledge and competencies:
o Strong people management experience, including leading staff at the various levels
o Experience in managing a laboratory
o Demonstrated teamwork, organizational, and leadership skills
o Proven ability to influence across functions and organizations
o Knowledge of DOE and QbD a plus

Requirements include:

• To lead and motivate the team of professionals who are responsible for all aspects of analytical sciences and product performance testing across the Hygiene-Home and Hygiene-Health Business Units, globally.
• Be responsible for the development of his/her team members to enable them to achieve their full potential.
• To support the R&D development teams by technical expertise, oversight and strategic direction across category projects through feasibility, development, launch and actively bring in new methodologies and strategic partners to RB.
• To proactively develop consumer technical testing models and effectively partner with assigned statistician on providing analyses for robust designs and results.
• To leverage sensory, statistics and technical performance knowledge to enable strongest possible product claims.
• To be persuasive and influential within the project teams.
• To ensure that research facilities and agencies appointed to conduct consumer research are suitably qualified and experienced to conduct the work assigned and ensuring that the required quality standards are met.

Key Challenges include:

• Management of conflicting priorities within designated projects.
• Delivery against established timelines.
• Management of consumer research budgets.
• Management of internal and external interfaces.

Qualifications

• PhD in Analytical or Organic Chemistry plus 7+ years relevant experience
• MS in Analytical or Organic Chemistry plus 15+ years relevant experience
• Strong and well-developed leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with recruitment, management and development of people.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to think strategically, develop tactics and measurable implementation plans and able to transform solid thinking into action.
• Results oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with solid planning and organizational capabilities, a bias for action, and the capability to define, evaluate and take risks.
• Excellent networking and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Understanding priority setting and project management.
• Strong scientific curiosity with an appetite for exploring new and previously uncharted territories and an openness to change and ability to think out of the box.
• Proven ability to display a degree of flexibility and adapt effectively to change.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to nurture teamwork and foster an environment of achievement.
• Ability to develop and communicate argumentation to influence externally, internally and working with diverse professional disciplines.
• Proven people management and people development skills.
• Proficient with common software, including MSOffice.
