A Day in the Life This position has the responsibility for applying and coaching the use of Design, Reliability, and Manufacturability (DRM) / Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies for the Neurovascular (NV) Operational Unit (OU) to develop technologies used to treat brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and other vascular lesions. The position will support the overall NV DRM strategy and tactics to achieve the desired business results.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Develop NV DRM program strategy in partnership NV product development leadership
Partner with technical leaders to develop site level DRM maturity growth plans
Drive best practice sharing of DRM methods across NV
Provide technical leadership for the application of DRM to projects across the NV business
Represent the NV business on the Medtronic DRM Council
Develop and Facilitate DRM training for all levels of the organization (New Employees, GBs, BBs, Management)
Facilitate application and use of DRM tools to make breakthrough improvements in the design, reliability and manufacturability of products
Coach DRM/DFSS Black Belt and Green Belt candidates towards successful applications of the methods and successful certification
Coach and mentor product development teams and individuals in the use of DRM methods and tools
Enhance the product development lifecycle within R&D by applying industry best practices, processes and metrics
Recommend improvements to work processes and procedures, design guidelines, systems models, interfaces, systems architectures, and protocols
Drive application of DRM methods to improve process outcomes (yield, stability, robustness)
All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System
Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations
Experience in the application of statistical methods for improvements in process performance (DOE, ANOVA, Sample Size Selection, Monte Carlo Simulations, MSA, etc.,)
All other duties as assigned
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
Master's Degree in Engineering Discipline
Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
Proven experience in orchestrating and implementing DRM / DFSS improvements resulting in sustained change
Experience in the application of statistical methods for improvements in product performance
Demonstrated experience working in a Research and Development organization as a change agent implementing DRM / DFSS methods and strategies
Experience and ability to train, lead, mentor, coach and inspire individuals and teams to significantly impact the business
Familiarity with FDA and ISO standards
Leadership experience at the manager level in an Engineering organization
Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interface at all levels in the organization
Ability to work with others and accomplish goals working within a team
Experience as a creative problem solver
Comfort in dealing with ambiguity
Confidence in applying engineering experience to make pragmatic choices about system design, architecture, and implementation
Black Belt or Master Black Belt - Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) / DRM or similar methodology
Experience in a product development environment with a strong focus on Design for Six Sigma and continuous improvement
Past engineering experience in medical device product development
