The Computer Programmer II shall work as part of a large software team to solve challenging technical problems in the context of relational database system reporting to support ecological restoration and data management for projects spanning the Gulf of Mexico region and beyond

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coding:

    • Write SQL code to communicate with relational database systems.
    • Create and/or edit existing C#.NET code using Visual Studio for production applications.
    • Edit user interface code using HTML5, JS and CSS.
    • Include \"in-code\" comments/documentation for all code blocks prior to repository upload.
    • Knowledge of CI/CD workflows is a plus.

  • Database Design & Maintenance:

    • Knowledge of enterprise database reporting tools (specifically Oracle Reports and/or BI Publisher is a plus).
    • Interact with various relational database systems.
    • Participate with senior team members on database schema design.
    • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide efficient query responses.
    • Follow and document database policies, procedures and standards.
    • Monitor database performance.

  • Software design & architecture:

    • Participate in writing software specifications/requirements documentation with senior team members.

  • Documentation:

    • Assist in creating training materials/user guides to accompany custom built databases and applications.
    • Assist in creating use cases and test plans for written software.
    • Document developed project components in the government provided code repository ticket and documentation platform.

  • Testing:

    • Publish all code to an in-house testing web server for review by Government.
    • Assist in creating use cases and test plans for written software.
    • Perform the following types of testing on developed software: unit testing, functional testing, performance testing, and usability testing.

  • Communications:

    • Participate in meetings related to application development.
    • Interact with other programmers on the Advanced Applications Team and other agency programmers to ensure transparency of projects.


Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position does not have management authority or supervisory capacity

Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or relevant subject matter is required
  • At least two (2) years of related experience; preferably in a federal office setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must knowledge of relational database systems, T-SQL and/or PL-SQL as an enterprise database communication language
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
  • Have a customer service driven attitude and be able to work with a diverse work environment
  • The ability to work autonomously and as a team member

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with options for remote work, travel for field activities and/or meetings may be needed.
