Underwriter Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Underwriting files, clearing conditions sending out Finance Agreements, to help complete a decision a file.

  • Ensure accurate and thorough analysis of credit risk and proper documentation for all applicants and projects submitted for tax financing.

  • Manage pipeline by interfacing with property owners, district reps and processors to ensure timely approval of projects.

  • Assist in development and maintenance of department policy and procedure documents.

  • Act as a resource for district staff and troubleshoot projects.

  • Prepare approval and commitment letters listing all conditions, which need to be met prior to funding of projects including review of acceptable projects.

  • Prepare financing documents and coordinate accurate execution of same with property owners, contractors and signing agents.

  • Review projects and confirm project complete with appropriate permits, inspections and lien releases as applicable.

  • Support documentation requirements for final financing agreements and work within district requirements to finalize project and financing.

  • Coordinate with final funding department and prepare file and transaction for orderly completion.

  • Perform special projects and research as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Underwriter Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 3+ year’s experience within processing, underwriting, funding and/or escrow within a mortgage and banking institution.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF Conversions.

  • Ability to independently manage daily tasks and short-term projects.

  • Highly organized and attention to detail is a must.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and strong analytical capacity.

  • Bilingual – English / Spanish preferred

  • May start as temp to hire depending on experience.

Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:
  • May require some flexible hours into evenings as scheduled.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:


  • This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets.

  • Work environment is indoors with majority of time spent sitting at a desk.

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
