DESCRIPTION
The Transportation Department Manager will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and designers in all aspects of design and plan preparation for a wide variety of transportation (freeway, highway, roadway, transit, aviation) improvement projects for public and private clients throughout Southern California. The Transportation Department Manager will be responsible for the development and growth of the department.

  • Lead, assign, and review the work of the project delivery team. Provide technical guidance and oversight for the design for transportation projects.

  • Provide oversight of department projects per agreed to scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Lead department compliance and adherence to quality management and quality assurance practices.

  • Coach, develop, and mentor staff. Attract, develop, and retain highly talented transportation professionals.

  • Coordinate business development activities of the Department supporting overall growth objectives and new work added including project pursuits, client outreach and marketing, teaming arrangements, capture planning, proposal development and review, and interview preparation and delivery.

  • Lead strategic planning while building and maintaining relationships with key client decision makers, keeping ahead of upcoming project advertisements and changes in the clients' organization.

  • Be a visible and an active member of the Southern California Transportation Community through professional organization involvement.

  • Maintain existing client relationships, generate additional opportunities with existing clients, and develop new clients. Monitor internal and external client satisfaction.

  • Coordinate with the West Region Transportation leadership on resource planning, business development, and project execution.

  • Serve as a project manager on multi-discipline transportation design projects.

  • Monitor and control department annual operating budget.

    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's degree is a plus)

  • California Professional Engineer's (PE) license

  • 15 years of transportation design experience with increasing levels of responsibility

  • 7 years of significant managerial experience

  • Caltrans, LA Metro, OCTA and Design-Build experience is a plus

  • Demonstrated supervisor and mentoring skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and presentation skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills are required

  • Strong track record of overseeing successful project delivery

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts

  • Have the drive to be a leader in the company and in the professional community

  • Possess strong engineering judgment with a strive for quality and financial excellence

  • You'll need to be a team player, think strategically, mentor junior staff, and enjoy your work
