Responsible for applying principles of accounting to compile, analyze and verify financial information, record transactions, and prepare reports. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for preparing and maintaining general ledger accounts. Performs reconciliations of accounts and is responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in preparing financial statements and monthly budget variance analysis.
Analyze and evaluate account balances and fluctuations.
Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts including but not limited to bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid, account receivable/payable, intercompany.
Both prepare and review journal entries prepared by other accountants to record and adjust inter-company balances as needed.
Perform multiple intercompany account analysis and reconciliation in accordance with accounting standards including reconciliations of intercompany charges from the parent company.
Assess transactions for root causes that may result in variances to reconciliations and suggest improvements for overall process.
Maintain and update the Financial Reporting System as needed.
Respond timely and professionally to inquiries and escalate unresolved issues to direct supervisor.
Interface with other departments (e.g. Operations, Human Resources, Billings, Payroll, parent company, etc.) as needed.
Ensure compliance with relevant QTC’s accounting policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), Financial Accounting & Reporting (FAR) and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements.
Support the gathering of information for internal and external auditors and government compliance reviews.
Responsible for compliance filings including but not limited to income tax returns, sales & use taxes, unclaimed property and personal property tax with various government agencies.
Responsible for accounts receivable functions including but not limited to performing treasury functions.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Excellent written and communication skills
Strong detail orientation, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education
Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in Accounting, Public Accounting experience preferred
Experience with Sage 100 a plus
