About New Markets:
Recently formed, the New Markets organization is an expanding, fully-dedicated team focused on creating significant value by driving Dexcom's world-class continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology into new applications, such as non-intensive type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, the hospital and managed care facilities, and pregnancy (including gestational diabetes). These important initiatives are entrepreneurial by nature, as they may require novel go-to-market strategies and new technologies. Each member of this team will play a critical role in helping the New Markets organization first explore then realize the significant potential that exists within these exciting new opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
This role will report to Dexcom Advanced Research and Technology (ART) functional management and will work exclusively on New Markets projects. As a dedicated member of the New Markets organization, New Markets Technology Lead will:
Provide Technical Portfolio management support for New Markets projects
Work closely with the New Markets technical and commercial counterparts to understand and document the technology needs in support of the New Markets commercial roadmaps, as they relate to continuous monitoring of glucose (CGM) and other analytes. Technology may encompass sensing technology, electro-chemical sensors, algorithms, mechanical, power/battery technology, wireless transmission technology, new manufacturing processes.
Collaborate with ART leaders, technical project leads and subject matter experts to scope out best approaches for realizing technology that delivers against New Market needs.
In conjunction with a New Markets and Technical Project leads, generate robust technology development proposals and obtain resource and timeline commitments from ART and R&D teams to execute against technology plans.
Manage and track the portion of the New Markets budget and associated resources allocated to technology efforts.
Participate in hiring processes to ensure timely and appropriate hiring of necessary resources to meet technology development plans
Work side-by-side with New Markets technical and project managers to track timelines, milestones, objectives, and priorities for all technology and product development projects and provide regular updates to ART and New Markets leadership.
Responsible for driving all New Markets ART technology projects in portfolio through Phase 0 technology framework (approvals, stage gate reviews, re-scopes, exit review and technology transfer)
Stay informed of all interdependencies and coordination between the various New Markets projects supported by ART
Maintain awareness of new technology development within Dexcom and external to Dexcom that may be relevant to future New Markets commercial aspirations and relay relevant information to New Markets commercial leads.
Maintain awareness of New Markets commercial strategy developments or new product concepts and relay relevant info about potential future technology needs to Dexcom R&D teams
Provide technical guidance as required in execution of technology feasibility projects. Applying risked based approach through concept development, establishing new test methods, prototyping, and technical/commercial/clinical proof-of-concept.
Provide recommendations when technology projects are faced with technical or logistical barriers or key decisions points. Work with functional managers and key stakeholders to assist team with overcoming barriers.
Maintain and improve upon key relationships and processes, essential for efficient execution of New Markets projects being executed by ART
Provide oversight to matrix management structure for dotted lined resources, to ensure high quality product engineering, development best practices, coordinate New Markets' projects and engineering resources with New Markets' Project Managers, and participating team member development/review processes.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
Ability to run self-directed projects, maintain timelines, and execute technology projects in an early-stage market environment
Experience as technical leader of cross-functional medical device or diagnostic projects (exposure to systems development, sensing technology, data science/algorithm development, wireless and power technology, novel high volume manufacturing processes)
Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data to generate insights and conclusions
Ability to deal with ambiguity/uncertainty and a willingness to try new/challenging things
Proven ability to work hands-on and independently in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Degreed in one or more scientific disciplines (Mechanical, Chemical, Biological, or Data engineering or sciences)
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous direct involvement in Medical Device
Previous direct involvement in early stage product or technology development, technology readiness assessments, applied research, etc
Established track record developing new collaboration models and business processes ideally centered around new product development in emerging applications
Track record of developing new technologies for nascent markets
Direct exposure and familiarity with high volume manufacturing
Previous experience working in a start-up or early-stage environment
Previous experience working in matrix organization
Technical, hands-on, systems or project management experience in two or more of the following areas: applied physical sciences/engineering, physiology/biology, or data science/algorithms
Experience with full product development lifecycle
Experience as functional manager of engineering staff and/or experience as technical project lead of multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience and Education Requirements:
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 13+ years related experience or a Master's degree and 8+ years equivalent industry experience of a PhD and 5+ years of experience.
Provides technical expertise to the design and development of new invasive and noninvasive medical device product(s). Investigates/evaluates existing technology and advises research and development, regulatory affairs, and reliability engineering to ensure appropriate process development under the best possible conditions. Designs and implements new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products. Develops new concepts from initial design to market release. Conducts feasibility studies of the design to determine ability to function as intended. Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development. Coordinates activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure the delivery of supplies or services needed to meet scheduled timelines.
Functional/Business Knowledge:
Possesses expert knowledge of leading technical areas.
May be externally recognized as an expert in technical field.

High level of understanding of solving unique problems where analysis requires an in‐depth evaluation and may impact future concepts or technologies.
Judgement:
Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
