Job Description:

Customer Service Representatives respond to customer needs and inquiries and work with other departments to provide outstanding service to our customers. Lynden Air Cargo is a US part 121 all-cargo airline based in Anchorage, Alaska. Lynden Air Cargo conducts operations within Alaska as well as other locations around the world, utilizing its fleet of L382 Hercules aircraft. Lynden's structure provides employees with the family environment of a smaller company, and the competitiveness, expectations and rewards of a large, global organization.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 


  • Performs all work assigned in accordance with established policies and procedures as governed by Lynden Air Cargo’s Employee Handbook and applicable CFR’s.

  • Answers a variety of customer information requests by phone, email, fax, or in person regarding rates, routing and transportation procedures.

  • Acts as the main point of contact with scheduled service customers.

  • Quotes accurate rates and document cargo bookings for shipment.

  • Rate house air waybills (HAWB's) and other shipment information into company computer system.

  • Enters proofs of delivery (POD).

  • Manifests shipment and flight paperwork, sometimes within time constraints

  • Files records and maintains recordkeeping system.

  • May be required to work other shifts when assigned.

  • Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics to calculate percentages and freight rates, including the effect of dimensioned weight.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to use sound judgment and common sense in dealing with problems.  Ability to make quick decisions in a fully and competent manner with little supervision.  Ability to handle stressful situations in a competent and professional manner.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

HazMat Certification (Basic Awareness of Air Cargo Shipments of Hazardous Materials).  Training provided upon hire if not HazMat certified.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Familiar with computer, keyboarding, and word processing, including emails.

Ability to interact with warehouse personnel to identify and coordinate daily shipments.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
