Job Description:

Best Buy is seeking an innovative and technically curious Sr. Engineering Manager – Best Buy Health - Data Platform with expertise in architecture, strategy, and development lead experience to drive the success of our data platform supporting our Best Buy Health strategy.

This role is expected to be a technical thought leader accountable for building our cloud-based data platform on Azure driving growth for our health business. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of modern data management practices. You will be responsible for building foundational capabilities on our data platform to process structured and unstructured data from across our health business including field devices (IOT), as well as internal applications and external partners. Ultimately, the goal will be to unlock data we capture to drive engagement of our customers and employees to deliver of impactful health offerings that create lovable experiences.

In this position you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers creating data-based products incorporating agile methodologies and DevOps practices. This role will closely partner with Product, Design, peers across business units, and executive leadership to deliver well-engineered data platform capabilities.

The ideal candidate for this role would have:


  • Recognized as a technical leader both in their company and at an industry level

  • Expert in multiple software languages, frameworks, and solutions

  • Experience in architecting and delivering with highly skilled engineering teams in product model environments

  • A solid understanding of the health care industry.

  • Relevant experience with data engineering, having experience with a Cloud provider (preferably Azure) & real time analytics architecture.

  • Skills like data pipelines, ETL, data warehousing, workflow systems, etc..

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, agile environment.

  • Builds, leads and manages a data platform engineering team with a focus on an overall engineering mindset

  • Creates high performing teams of engineers to effectively deliver strategic objectives

  • Directly hires, manages, and develops an inclusive, collaborative, and diverse team of technical professionals and drives employee engagement through innovative solutions

  • Manages the team outcome around architecture direction, technical designs, testing strategies, deployment strategies, and production support objectives

  • Effectively manages third-party vendors providing engineering services, to ensure resources deliver optimal outcomes

  • Fosters consistent use of established methodology and tools usage

  • Experience developing people and teams through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.

  • Experience building cross-functional relationships and working with other teams to deliver projects.

  • Very good communication skills, both verbally and written.

  • Creates and presents technical architectures

  • Drives performance analysis and tuning

  • Ensures that projects are on track and helps teams solve issues with roadblocks, cross-functional dependencies, infrastructure needs, and operations transitions.

  • Consistently looks for areas of improvement in development technologies and methodologies

  • Participates in strategic planning organization-wide

  • Attracts, retains and grows internal engineering talent

  • Fosters a learning environment and promotes knowledge-sharing across teams

  • Continues to drive down the Total Cost of Ownership of our Virtual Care solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience

  • 8 or more years of experience in Technology delivery and development

  • 5 or more years of experience in Agile delivery methodology and DevOps principles

  • 5 or more years of experience in Data Engineering

  • 3 or more years of experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

  • 2 or more years of experience with data streaming technologies such as Kafka

  • 2 or more years of direct people management and demonstrated success in developing engaged, inclusive, and diverse teams

  • 2 or more years of experience managing vendor delivery partners

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working within the healthcare industry
