Position Details:

Chubb is currently seeking a Commercial Insurance Team Leader in the Alpharetta Branch.  The Commercial Insurance Team Leader will have multiple roles including:


  • Managing the overall growth and profit of the $20M Commercial Insurance Specialty (CIS) Atlanta portfolio. This position will be responsible for directing the day to day operation of two to three underwriters, providing guidance/expertise, development, performance management, marketing agency relationships, and expense management.  

  • Underwrite an assigned book of new and renewal core commercial (CIS) business for the Atlanta branch Commercial Insurance operation.



  • Other leadership responsibilities in the Atlanta branch as assigned by the CI Manager such as managing sales and marketing processes for the CI Manager. 


This position will report to the Atlanta Commercial Insurance Manager.   

Team Leadership Responsibilities


  • P&L - Accountability (premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans/results) for the Atlanta CIS portfolio

  • Portfolio Management/LOB - Direct profit and loss responsibility for field business; coordination, agency management, and production responsibility across the CIS portfolio for the Atlanta branch

  • Underwriting Strategy Execution - Manages execution of new business underwriting and renewal underwriting strategy for the Atlanta branch

  • Technical UW/Referral Resource - In collaboration with Product Line and Industry Practice, serves as technical resource for CIS referrals and underwriting authority for CIS underwriters in the Atlanta branch which fall outside of field authority; coordinate efforts with Home Office/Product and Segment leaders.

  • Corporate Underwriting audit - Monitors underwriting quality and achieve Satisfactory score with underwriting authority violation for CIS team below the allowed threshold. 

  • Marketplace Focus - Develop opportunities particular to the marketplace and provide customized approaches on market conditions and agency needs. 

  • Marketing Strategy and Execution - Works closely with Field Operations on development and execution of marketing strategy and coordinate marketing and production activities with the Commercial Insurance Manager within the Atlanta branch for entire portfolio of CIS business.

  • Business Development - Direct business development activities and provide guidance for implementing CIS sales and/or product launches.

  • Producer Management: Collaborate with the Atlanta Commercial Insurance Manager to manage local producer plans; responsible for cohesive and consistent agency management strategies. Facilitate CIS product education/appetite

  • Expense Administration – Collaborate with Atlanta Commercial Insurance Manager to ensure effective expense administration for direct reports.

  • Staff Development and Staff Administration (including Performance Management and Compensation) – Accountable for new hire onboarding, training and development, succession planning, culture of inclusion, coaching and mentoring and retention of staff.  Ensure effective deployment of staff; maintain mentoring / succession relationship with high potential underwriters within assigned locations.

  • Oversee workflows, staffing resources, and appropriate application of technology to ensure efficient, cost-effective field operation.  Collaborate with Atlanta Commercial Insurance Manager and HR on performance management and compensation process.


Underwriting Responsibilities


  • Financial performance of an assigned renewal book of business.

  • Identifying opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources to meet assigned new business goals.

  • External agency and insured visits approximately 25-30% of the time.

  • Risk selection, analysis (including documentation) and service of accounts based on Chubb Commercial Insurance guidelines.

  • Implementing and managing effective pricing and underwriting strategies for profitable growth of the book.

  • Building, maintaining and managing successful producer relationships to achieve retention and new business development.

  • Meeting with new and renewal customers, individually or as part of a Chubb team, to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery.

  • Working in a team environment with Territory Underwriting Manager, other Underwriters, Underwriter Associates, Loss Control Representatives, Claim Representatives and Operations Staff.


 





Knowledge, skills and abilities: 


  • College Degree in Risk Management and Insurance, business or related fields, or equivalent experience

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in commercial multi-line underwriting preferred.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge in the Manufacturing, Professional Services and Other Services Industry practice.

  • Strong sales and marketing skills are critical; must be able to demonstrate successful agency and broker management, including building, maintaining and managing producer and customer relationships.

  • Prior people management experience preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. 

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel,  and MS Powerpoint) as well as other business-related software.
