Mobile Foreman (Cross-Trained Agg/Asph/Equip)

A Cross Trained Mobile Foreman is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on any combination of the duties described below in more detail below. A Cross Trained Mobile Foreman is able to safely and productively operate multiple Asphalt Hot Plants, multiple Aggregate Crusher Plants and various support equipment.  This Foreman typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

Key Duties

Aggregate Plant Processes | Essential Duties and Functions


  • Conduct Risk Assessment as an individual or group as appropriate

  • Perform Onboarding responsibilities with new employees

  • Conduct pre shift inspections of plant and equipment

    • Report/correct deficiencies



  • Start-up and Shut-down of plant

  • Lead Operations of plants and equipment Safely and Efficiently and meet Quality expectations

    • Ensure those on site (employees, vendors, subs) meet expectations on PPE, policies etc.

    • Work with Quality Control Department to ensure a quality product



  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations, stockpiles and proper barricading

  • When applicable, locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging

  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor

  • Keep time and material records

  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications

  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit

  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various location

Asphalt Plant Processes | Essential Duties and Functions

Asphalt Plant process involves placing raw aggregate and liquid asphalt materials through the mixing drum to be stored in silos until ready for load-out on trucks for delivery to job sites.


  • Conduct Risk Assessment as an individual or group as appropriate

  • Perform Onboarding responsibilities with new employees

  • Conduct pre shift inspections of plant and equipment

    • Report/correct deficiencies



  • Start-up and Shut-down of plant

  • Lead Operations of plants and equipment Safely and Efficiently and meet Quality expectations

    • Ensure those on site (employees, vendors, subs) meet expectations on PPE, policies etc.

    • Work with Quality Control Department to ensure a quality product



  • Assist Plant Superintendent in ordering materials needed for plant operation

  • Assist Plant Superintendent with stockpile management

  • Maintain all required paperwork

  • Communicate with road crews on an hourly and daily basis

  • Assist with plant maintenance

  • Operate loader when needed

  • Help maintain cleanliness of the plant site

  • Must be willing to work Nights and Weekends

  • Must be able to read, comprehend manuals and directives

  • Able to work at heights using safe procedures

  • Must be willing to help out as needed

  • Able to calculate basic math

  • Basic computer knowledge

  • Must have a positive attitude and eager to learn new tasks

  • Welding is a plus

  • Electrical/Electronics is a plus

  • Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts

Equipment Operator | Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in a manner that keeps the employee and surrounding employees safe.  Operation includes proper pre-trip inspections, MSHA/OSHA compliance, and Operation of Equipment that maintains performance and production equal to peers without compromising safety.  Equipment Operation is for a full shift (up to 14 hours) with breaks.  Equipment may include but is not limited to:


  • Water Truck | CAT 966, 980, 988 and like sized Loaders | CAT 226 Skid Steer and like size | Excavators | Dozers | Backhoes

  • Conduct Risk Assessment as an individual or group as appropriate

  • Perform Onboarding responsibilities with new employees

  • Conduct pre shift inspections of plant and equipment

    • Report/correct deficiencies



  • Understand and execute verbal instructions for specific tasks as well as general job duties

  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading

  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.

  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor

  • Perform regular scheduled and unplanned maintenance to the crusher / wash plant

  • Keep crusher / wash plant catwalks clear of material buildup through inspection and shoveling

  • Keep crusher / wash plant from material buildup at material discharge and transfer points through use of skid steer and shoveling

  • Washing of portable crusher in preparation for mobilization

  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications

  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit

  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations

Qualification Requirements



  • General.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


  • Education and Experience.  This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Plant and Equipment Operator. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.  Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees. Three (3) to Five (5) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on Plant and Equipment Operations. 


  • Physical Demands.  The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Plant and Equipment Operator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. 

  • Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties

  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance

  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the asphalt/plant construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment

  • The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely



  • Work Environment.  The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Asphalt Plant Operator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 


    • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions

    • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

    • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery

    • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
