Michael Baker is seeking an experienced Southern California Transportation professional to lead the growth of our Transportation Practice in the Southern California marketplace.

DESCRIPTION
Working closely with our West Region Transportation Practice Lead and our local transportation professionals, this individual will be charged with the development and implementation of an innovative business strategy, identifying and leading key strategic pursuits, managing large multidiscipline transportation projects, mentoring project managers, and establishing strategic relationships with clients and teaming partners.

The Southern California Transportation Practice Leader will:

  • Grow Michael Baker's transportation presence with a primary focus on Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (i.e. OCTA, TCA, LA Metro, SBCTA, RCTC, VCTC, etc.) in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura and Kern Counties, with collaboration with other managers in the Los Angeles, Ontario, Palm Desert, Carlsbad and San Diego offices. Develop business in highways and freeways in collaboration with other Michael Baker leaders.

  • Connect /cross-market other discipline services and solutions. Support other disciplines that have existing client relationships and leverages those relationships for growth opportunities. Assist in design-build pursuits including strategic pursuit planning, stakeholder outreach, proposal development and project management execution for project delivery as may be warranted.

  • Develop and maintain client, stakeholder and teaming partner relationships. Work closely with the Michael Baker Southern California Transportation Leadership Team in pursuit identification and strategies, agency and public outreach, and allocation/management of technical resources. Identifies and leverages partnership opportunities, build knowledge in government relations, protocol and processes and develop strategic relationships with key elected officials, industry leaders, agency management leaders and colleague firms through collaboration with Business Development Associates.

  • Become an active participant in local professional organizations such as WTS, APWA, ASCE or ACEC and works towards securing a leadership role on the Board(s) or Committee(s).

  • This is a highly visible position that requires strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills, as well as problem-solving abilities.

  • Lead project delivery as Senior Project Manager on projects through provision of technical direction and oversight to the design team; oversights fiscal management relative to scope, schedule and budget; promotes adherence to client management, implementation of quality control processes and appropriate level of delegation to, and oversight of, key supporting staff.

  • Identify potential business development opportunities that are professionally challenging; brings recognition to Michael Baker on a local and regional basis; and help to maintain and continues to expand Michael Baker's Transportation presence in Southern California.

  • Lead proposal, interview, fee development and negotiations for various project pursuits.

  • Build relationships with other managers in the firm and with other key managers companywide. Refresh past knowledge and stay apprised of current representative services and projects for Michael Baker in Environmental, GIS, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Structures, Surface Water, Surveying, Transportation, Water Resources; Recruits and attract individuals to the firm and help build team members' careers.

  • Collaborate with the Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Ontario, Palm Desert, Carlsbad and San Diego Transportation Leadership team regarding staff assignments, workshare, mentorship, business pursuits and quality of project deliverables.

    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer in the state of California required.

  • 20 years of Transportation/Public Works design-build and/or design-bid build experience with increasing levels of responsibility

  • Strong track record of overseeing successful project delivery of transportation projects for SBCTA, RCTC, RCTD, OCTA, LA Metro, Caltrans and local cities / counties

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to be a leader in the company to grow our transportation practice in the California marketplace

  • Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills, strong engineering judgment, and technical skills, and strong proposal
