Job Summary:

The wastewater operator position is required to perform a multitude of tasks, including but not limited to, operating and maintaining wastewater primary screening equipment (offal) and pre-treatment equipment. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operation and maintenance of full treatment system, including a 10 million gallon anaerobic lagoon with gas collection system


• Operation and maintenance of 4.5 million gallon sequencing batch reactor (SBR), and two 4 million gallon holding ponds


• Operation and maintenance of 35 acre land application system and two discharge outlets.


• Operate and interpret results for pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and spectrographic analytical equipment, sampling instruments, and flow instruments to the degree required by National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and policy.


• Maintain and perform basic maintenance on pumps, motors, aerators, air compressors, pneumatic auxiliaries, hydraulically driven equipment, belt and chain drive systems, digital and analog controllers and sensors, irrigation, plumbing, and electrical components.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience  


• Ability to read, speak, and write fluent English


• Basic organization skills


• Ability to maintain operation logs


• Basic maintenance and electrical wiring skills


• General painting, grounds keeping and housekeeping skills


• Forklift, tractor, crane and other heavy equipment operation preferred


• Algebraic level mathematical skills, and ability to communicate operational status of treatment system


• All other skills as required 

Physical/Environmental Factors:

• Able to climb ladders or steep inclines


• Able to lift 70 lbs


• Periodically works in hazardous, unhygienic environments


• Work in outdoor conditions (all seasons of the year)


• Generally works slippery, wet environments


• Use of pesticides chlorine based disinfectants and herbicides


• Enters confined spaces


• Makes accurate observations of treatment system based on visual, mechanical, or analytical data, respond to this information using critical thinking skills and make educated decisions.
