Job Description

The Vice President, Strategic Supply Chain Manager will be based in Farmington Hills, MI or Austin, TX or Remote.  The VP will be responsible for developing and implementing a SCM and advancing sourcing strategy in support of Flex’s automotive business. He or she will bring proven experience supporting a product throughout its entire product lifecycle, ensuring design decisions contribute to a robust, reliable, and cost-effective supply chain. Additionally, he or she will serve as a customer interface, work with technology roadmaps, scout, evaluate and select suppliers, conduct cost and lead time analysis, build supplier relationships, negotiate commercial agreements, validate product requirements, mitigate risk, and implement lean methodologies.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:


  • Develop and drive the material and supply chain management strategies to deliver customer requirements and maintain financial competitiveness for Flex

  • Develop strategic plans and policies to achieve strong supplier relationships to assure consistent supply as well as leading a team of Commodity professionals in their delivery and implementation, to enhance the profitability of the business segment and its customers.

  • Provide support to the respective business unit management teams regarding customer issues and questions on materials and supply chain management. Such support may include responding to customer inquiries on schedule, delivery or costing questions. Serve as the assigned customer’s primary Flex escalation point for materials and supply issues.

  • Participate in the review of vendor and customer contracts by outlining requirements and considerations..

  • Directs the activities of supply chain managers and staff and is responsible for planning, budgeting, and maintaining costs for a broad functional area.

  • Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource/mentor.

  • Hire and direct staff of senior group members to acquire necessary resources to meet scheduled commitments.

  • Ensure that product development is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements.

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering or related discipline

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in automotive supply chain management & advanced sourcing

  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership or supervisory experience

  • Utilize tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends, striving to continuously improve value

  • Ability to identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks or elimination of non-value)
