This SFA role will support the Product Innovation Finance Director(s) and the functional Directors across the R&D organization of the Diabetes Operating Unit (OU). The core responsibilities of this position will be to provide financial oversight, business partnership, and financial analysis in support of the R&D organization's financials and business decisions. The role will also be responsible for supporting and enhancing financial processes and frameworks to align with Medtronic policies and goals. Key financial support activities will entail coordination of budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities to include month-end, quarter and year-end close, expense & cost center control, and collaborative development of AOP and 5-year strategic plan for the R&D organization. Additionally, the monthly/quarterly/yearly close activity will include participating in journal entries and account reconciliations, to ensure integrity of financial results and appropriate management visibility. The role will also entail active engagement with R&D business partners to understand financial drivers and to drive achievement of key business metrics and goals.

The SFA role will be located in Northridge, California at Medtronic's Diabetes OU headquarters. This role is also accepting considerations to be remote based.

A Day in the Life


  • Partner with business leaders to ensure that they understand the financial performance of the R&D organization and on portfolio decisions
  • Model both organic and inorganic business development portfolio investments across all components of potential financial impact (NPV, IRR, ROI, etc.)
  • Applies GAAP and IFRS in financial reporting, planning and analysis
  • Conduct economic and industry research to support analyses
  • Analyze actual vs. forecast performance across KPIs impacting product development,
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and the underlying drivers clearly and timely
  • Provide insights to business partners to achieve financial objectives and business partner Goals & Objectives (G&Os)
  • Identify, analyze, communicate and provide suggested solutions to resolve financial issues which impact business objectives
  • Leverage information systems to increase efficiency and effectiveness in reporting
  • Lead financial reviews and provide analytics and insights reporting

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of work experience in Finance and/or Accounting (Or Advanced Degree with 2+ years)
Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance
  • Experience in financial modeling, analysis and reporting (e.g., forecasting / budgeting / strategic planning and investment valuations)
  • Product development and project management experience
  • MBA/Masters Degree
  • Business Partner experience to senior leaders
  • Experience providing financial and analytical support to an R&D organization or function
  • Expert in MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint, including experience in excel with lookups and Pivots
  • Experience in medical device/healthcare industry (e.g., practices, techniques and standards)
  • Experience with R&D, Business Development & Strategy, marketing, finance and/or business operations
